NolanHOST
88:00
yeah great uh great set list creation and placement of songs and guests um and i think we get possibly maybe the three best ones four four maybe the top four of the weekend in this show with Long Black Veil, Sierra Hole, Spoon, Casey and Sierra Hole.
NolanHOST
88:26
Last Stop, Sierra Hole sticks around.
SeanHOST
64:33
I did it, One Sweet World, looking for a vein, so damn lucky, and that kind of caps off the first half of the show, the first set, if you will.
SeanHOST
64:45
because after that once again in typical gorge fashion things were were cranked up to a 10 and the back half of this show hits really really hard um not only was this the final show of the tour but i thought that they closed it out with one of the best runs of the entire tour too Long Black Veil gets that run underway, and what a treat.
SeanHOST
65:17
I mean, this version of Long Black Veil really was a treat.
SeanHOST
65:21
I know that it has popped up a few times now prior to The Gorge.
SeanHOST
65:28
But this one, really the last two that we've had have been so incredible.
SeanHOST
65:34
And in a big way, it's because of who the guests have been on this particular night.
SeanHOST
65:40
We have our second guest of the night because Sierra Hall comes out.
SeanHOST
66:03
This was the 100th performance of Long Black Veil at a DMV show.
Hal SchwartzHOST
18:25
I mean- Yes, I'm not gonna be jumping for joy over it, but there a- are shows there that have really interesting stuff.
Hal SchwartzHOST

JeanetteHOST

and i was so happy to hear this again it's been years i think i heard it at the gorge a few years ago but it's just such a classic cover that they do and dave does it so well and you know he typically will do bring you know bring a guest on for it but this was just the bit just the band and it was beautiful i went i went back and listened to it a few times and it was gorgeous And then
TriciaHOST
15:50
now i mean if you think that we weren't at red rocks watching this set and when we saw the opener song that jane likes it felt like a punch in the gut okay no i get
JeanetteHOST
16:00
i bet if
TriciaHOST
16:01
you if you didn't think that i saw long black veil and get real angry

JeffHOST

There's certain songs, country songs, man, through the years, there's been so many sad, sad songs.
JeffHOST
45:01
You know, you go back to the days of Long Black Veil.
JeffHOST
45:04
Did you ever hear that one? Yeah.
JeffHOST
45:06
That's a sad one.
BruceHOST
18:22
So that was cool.
BruceHOST
18:24
Yeah, I mean... know i after we talked with rashaun which i guess spoiler alert we we asked him some stuff about um you know him singing and you know different roles that he plays um and his answer was you know he's very reserved he doesn't like um necessarily singing and stepping out into the spotlight so anytime dave throws him on a song like word up or something for him to lead sing or rap and i did all those things he's pretty embarrassing he doesn't necessarily like to do it but he puts it on man and he does it yeah um and so it's so funny now hearing that and knowing that and then watching him perform that just like he's probably feeling it inside so i was just thinking about that the whole time but yeah it sounded good um and then oh man long long black veil next was Perfect.
BruceHOST
19:16
It was gorgeous.
BruceHOST
19:18
Loved that.
BruceHOST
19:47
What do you think about that run kind of right after a word up there?
NolanHOST
19:51
Oh, I loved it.
NolanHOST
19:52
Long Black Veil was awesome.
NolanHOST
19:54
Only the third time I'd seen it.
Steven L. JonesGUEST
17:49
Yeah.
Steven L. JonesGUEST
17:50
Well, and Long Black Veil.
Steven L. JonesGUEST
17:52
In fact, those two songs are, I mean, some I forget who, when Long Black Veil was, you know, written by professional songwriters for Lefty Frizzell, the country singer, or he was the first to record it, you know, and somebody said it was an instant folk song.
Steven L. JonesGUEST
18:06
I mean, it was written by like Tin Pan Alley guys, but they were imitating that tradition.
Steven L. JonesGUEST
18:12
And it was on the first band album music from Big Pink.
ElizabethHOST
21:42
But yeah, I feel like that's one of the things that I've always loved about classic country music is all the storytelling.
ElizabethHOST
21:48
And there's like a lot of that like... it's almost like these songs they sound like they could be really old folk songs you know but they were written in like the 50s and 60s but they sound older and like there's one like called The Ride by David Allen Coe and that's like about the the ghost of Hank Williams Sr. and then you've got like The Long Black Veil and all these are about you know ghosts and stuff and like they're really cool songs Oh, actually, so I just looked it up.
ElizabethHOST
22:22
That song, These Old Bones, Dolly Parton, she said it came to her in a dream.
