London Astoria

So the 53 used to take me from Trafalgar Square back to Cholton in South East London.

That's a long way, isn't it? It was the 53 that took me from Pop Scene, which is at London Astoria, to Big Indie Club Night back in the day.

The next single, America, did much the same.

He played 18 UK dates, including three nights at the London Astoria, on a schedule so brutal, 11 shows, one day off, then seven more, that he says he doesn't know how they survived it.

And it still lost money.

which brings us finally to the first track on side two.

I went right on tour and played all over the U.S. with Beatlemania, and then we ended up in London.

And when we were in London doing, I think, a six-month run at the Astoria Theatre, I was fortunate enough to meet Sir George Martin.

came to the show i was like oh my god george martin wow so he came backstage and he was really just wonderful and uh and i said um i said uh so mr martin why would you come see us i mean you know you you produce the beatles why would you come see us And he said, well, it was more for my son, Giles.

And I go there and I, they're playing and I see them and I have my camera and I say, Hey, can you do an interview? I'm, I'm, I'm, I'll bring this back to America and we do it.
