It's really about food security and supporting local farmers, Bowen said, but it's not a grocery store where customers can walk in and buy food.

Rather, the company, which currently employs about 20 workers, has about 700 direct-to-consumer household customers and delivers several hundred boxes of food each week to homes in Erie and Niagara counties, stretching from Eden to Lockport, Lewiston to Niagara Falls, and east past Clarence Center.

It's a U.S. Department of Agriculture-certified food hub and also participates in a Medicaid delivery program, with another 700 deliveries each week in Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua, and Cattaraugus counties.

And it's developed a wholesale business, serving about 25 restaurants, cafes, and other community organizations seeking local produce, including Feed More, community action organizations Head Start, the Niagara Veggie Van, and the University at Buffalo.

Hello, this is Marge Lauber, and for the next hour, I'll be reading from the current issues of the Lockport Union Southern Journal on the Niagara Frontier Radio Reading Service.

So our first issue is from Saturday, August 29th.

And I guess there was a moratorium that was implemented to prevent the rain overload.

So the Niagara County Sewer District has voted in favor of a six-month moratorium on any new development that exceeds 2,500 gallons a day of sewage output.

The decision made Wednesday was to help curtail overloading of the county's sewer plant after an extraordinary rainstorm earlier this month.

Mark Crocker, Town of Lockport supervisor and chairman of the Sewer District's Board of Directors, was a lone vote against the measure.

Vice Chairman Don McSwain of the Town of Wheatfield was absent.

Hi, Mike.

I didn't know what path I was leaning towards, but that path didn't seem to be one that I was, I was going to take.

So I was trying to figure things out, and strangely enough, I, I come from a small town in Western New York, right outside Buffalo, Lockport, New York, and I was, uh, reading through the local newspaper, and I came across an ad, a Army recruiting ad for, actually, I think it was the 10th Mountain Division, and I saw the ad.

And I don't know if it's divine intervention or how it got me to pick up the phone and call the recruiter, but that's exactly what I did.

Without my parents knowing, I called the recruiter and said, "Hey, I, I, I'm interested in hearing more about the Army." I had had uncles that had served in World War II, but besides that, I didn't have an immediate connection.

[laughs]

But other than that, I, I don't care, right? It is a chance to do something that hopefully brings them great joy like it's brought me to serve, but also the opportunities that it's brought.

I'm not sure a kid out of Lockport, New York, would have ever had the opportunity to serve in many different places across the world or the opportunity to do just a handful of the things we've discussed today.

It's been tremendous.

And I've said before, I love Canada.

My husband grew up in Lockport, Canada.

New York and Lockport, New York is right by Lake America and is right by, it's right by Toronto.

And so he knows all kinds of Canadian trivia.

He used to watch Canadian TV.

Brian Barrett was born on February 1st, 1984, and grew up in Lockport, New York.

His parents were Daniel and Deborah Barrett, and he had two younger brothers, Daniel and Richard.

He was 22 years old in the fall of 2006, and was studying at Buffalo State College.

So, Timothy.

Timothy was born on April 23rd, 1968 in Lockport, New York.

He was raised by his dad.

It was said that Timothy was like possessive, stubborn and determined.

Town officials to survey Carlisle Gardens.

Working on drainage improvements in area.

The town of Lockport board authorized a $39,000 engineering and design proposal for Carlisle Gardens drainage improvements on Monday at its scheduled work session.

Robert Clavone, town engineer with Wendell Companies, said a recent review to determine why stormwater has been pooling in the neighborhood revealed that there are 800 to 900 feet between catch basins on Ambleside Drive.
