Local Motors

Um, and so I, I work at our manufacturing demonstration facility, which is a part of Oak Ridge, where we interact with industry a lot and we do, um, our research is extremely applied.

Uh, I, I listened to your, uh, podcast the other, uh, day, um, from our friend from, uh, uh, Local Motors fame, and you know, there was some technology that they were using for printing cars that, you know, was originally developed within our manufacturing demonstration facility.

So those kind of commercial opportunities are really what we're after in the long run.

So when it comes to kind of digitizing the data that's coming around these and the way that we're trying to control all this stuff, we have to understand that, you know, there are certain things that are just too expensive or too difficult to, to measure or implement on kind of a day-to-day engineering basis.

That is, that's kind of the, uh, holy grail in the work that we're trying to do and, um, we have these kinds of really fantastic scientific challenges that, you know, I'm very interested in, where we put things in a neutron beamline or we use a supercomputer.

But, uh, we kind of ti- try to kind of temper those scientific interests along with the pragmatism of these industrial needs.

Um, so, uh, I was listening to your podcast the other day, uh, with our friend from, uh, Local Motors, who was, uh, using some of the technology that came out of our manufacturing demonstration facility where I work at Oak Ridge, um, to be able to 3D print cars.

Uh, that's the kind of e- you know, an example of the kinds of things that we want to enable out in the industrial world.
