Lisbon Lions

We are gonna be talking all things, uh, Celtic for this weekend.

And of course, uh, in relation to, um, next May, there is, uh, the 60th anniversary, of course, of the Lisbon Lions winning the European Cup.

But also, there will be an announcement on Monday around Oasis and a new tour, and I think anyone who's in my WhatsApp groups will have been sent a, a wee text from me back in May this year with, uh, all the proposed dates for Celtic Park.

I got tipped off on that Kev early doors, so it looks as though it's happening.

And they covered the entire pitch in tables and put a massive...

Can you imagine the full length of the pitch, marquee over it? Because they had a team in the 60s called the Lisbon Lions who won a European Cup and they were celebrating that team and they were all there.

And most of them were still alive, but they were really old.

And it was just like the full pitch, tables, black tie do.

We want to do as well as we possibly can, but we want players signed to make a mark initially on the domestic scene, which is the most important thing for us at this stage.

But that was a bit of a contradiction of the Martin O'Neill of just a couple of weeks ago when he was referencing the Lisbon Lions and why we need to do well as a club in the Champions League and it's where we deserve to be.

Talking about the Basel failure leading to one of the best seasons of our lifetimes and all that.

Yeah, he referenced that pretty strongly.

And tragedy and loss.

And I think if, you know, Willie Maile's recognised, the Lisbon Lions are recognised, all the Larsons of this world and all that.

So I think it'd be a nice link.

Yeah, I'm just asking you about AXOM, a Celtic state of mind.

It was held upstairs in a smallish room which was absolutely heaving.

Before the gig started, I nipped downstairs for a pee and I saw Shane McGowan being helped upstairs by two guys due to his inebriation.

that's Willie in Dumfries who may have come even from Dumfries to shots a decent distance just to see Shane McGowan now that sounds accurate that sounds like Shane McGowan doesn't it Tarn what have we got here Tam can I ask what have you got against Celtic aye what have you got against Celtic well this is for Liz Liz why don't you come along in a couple of weeks I'm doing a thing to help raise money to get John Clark the Celtic Lisbon Lions legend a statue come along there and they'll talk about my hatred of Celtic and buy him a blue nose is that Or come along tonight, I'm going for Jim Craig to help him get a start.

Another Lisbon Lion.

It's something personal.

You know, we sing about Willie Mailey, we sing about the Lisbon Lions.

I've always felt that the 31st minute they should sing about John Thompson, Stephen O'Connor's verse of the John Thompson song.

I'd love to see that.

Although I'm retired, I've still got the drive and the bug to try and do something.

And there's four statues up for Lisbon Lions just now, as you know.

Tommy Gemmell, the most recent one, and Craig Newk.

And there's Billy in Bellsill, Jimmy Johnson in Uddingston, and Bob Lennox in Tulcotes.

The Celtic Way is built for having the lesbian lines up either side of it.

Why does it take the guy in the street to ask for a pound here and there to help put a statue up when the club have benefited of these guys for coming up for 60 years next year? Next year's the 60th anniversary in a year that we can't even qualify for the tournament that we won 60 years ago.

There is a place for Celtic not to just make commercially from the success of the Lisbon Lions and the fantastic memories that we have as fans, but to honour them.

These people are immortal in Celtic's history.

And I'm talking to the tour group about the names of the stands.

And I was saying, on that stand over there is the Lisbon Lions stand.

It's named after our greatest ever team.

And just at that, Bertie Auld, accompanied by John Clark, was coming down the tunnel.

Didn't beforehand, but once you're involved here, I speak to some of the players that's came here from other clubs and they couldn't believe the closeness of it.

Well, you know yourself, you've seen it.

I mean, we had two players and the Lisbon Lions team that came from other clubs.

And if you asked them here and now, what would the club, they would say Celtic, because they are part of it.
