Lincoln Memorial University

This comes shortly after the university hosted a conference on anti-Semitism.

In the United States, The Departments of Justice and Health and Human Services have reached a settlement with Lincoln Memorial University to resolve an anti-Semitism civil rights complaint.

The complaint alleged that LMU's policies prevented Jewish students from completing final exams on Jewish holidays.

The settlement aims to establish clear protections for religious accommodations.

And in regards to Dr. Thompson, she is currently a PGY-3 in family medicine at UPMC Altoona in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

She was awarded the National Health Service Corps Scholarship while completing medical school at Lincoln Memorial University, Dubuque College of Osteopathic Medicine.

And she lived in a rural town in Appalachia and has a passion for rural health care disparities and plans to offer a broad spectrum of care to her patients while balancing life with her husband and three young children.

So can we get another round of applause for Dr. Thompson, please? Beautiful.

You know, I had the opportunity.

I used to teach at Lincoln Memorial University.

Where? Lincoln Memorial University.

It's right in the Cumberland Gap.

Okay.

So that's when I started looking into master's degrees within education.

And Lincoln Memorial University had just created a master's degree in education specifically for veterinary professionals.

So that called my name immediately.

My boss, Crystal, at the time, she was also looking at master's degree programs for clinical practice.

I knew that I wasn't going to be able to pay for my master's degree all at one time and I was going to have to get a second job.

So I knew working full-time, being a full-time single mama, having my kids 50% of the time, going through my master's degree program, and also having to find second employment was going to be a huge feat.

Luckily with Lincoln Memorial University, they have graduate assistantship.

So you can be a grad assistant somewhere and you can basically get your schooling for free if you apply and find a graduate assistant position.

And then they're doing a final ruling on it November 1st with things kicking off middle of 2027.

But the big thing here and the reason why it ties so much into the animal health and the veterinary world is The story that we're really belaboring here, but Lincoln Memorial University sued the AVMA in June of 2025, saying that the COE, the Council on Education, is restricting the supply of veterinarians.

Just six months later, The Department of Justice then filed a brief supporting the antitrust.

Now, they weren't ruling on it, but they said, hey, this is something that we think the court should look at.

So it did take me 18 years to get a two year degree.

I graduated from Lincoln Memorial University in 2010.

And it was just a hustle, you know, work, the children, their needs, school.

All of that was that New York hustle just kept it moving.

there was a sports-themed thrift store where not everything was used.

It was a lot of new, some used, called Arnold Athletic in Middlesboro, Kentucky, near where I went to school at Lincoln Memorial University, and there were tons of gems there.
