And God is a covenant maker.

The two central qualities of God, as we see in the Old Testament, are hesed, which is loving kindness, and uh immuno which is um covenant faithfulness and god is a god of love compassion truth and he enters into covenant with people in which covenant based on the character of god in which the character of god forms us and our relationship with with god and uh and with the land but when it comes to so i use that category more than covenant but i do i mean sacrament but i do have In my new book, Consider the Lilies, I have a section specifically on sacrament.

And the sacramental concept can be very helpful, but it also has a danger.

And that is one is looking at the created order as a sign of something else, rather than seeing the created order as value in itself, in its own covenant relationship with God.

you know, the pure light of God's grace shining through Jesus and the church functioning as a prism where that invisible light becomes visible across a wide spectrum.

And there's a place for art, for music, for literature, for personal ministries of various types, for healing, for leadership in economics and government and virtually every other thing.

The reason my book, Consider the Lilies, is so long is the last third of the book.

I say, okay, what's the significance? What's the meaning of this revelation of God in Jesus Christ and in the creation of created order for all areas of culture.

You all are those brilliant stars with myriad gifts and talents.

BYU has best-in-class musicians, choirs, dance teams, and so many talented artists and performing artists, two of which we saw today in that beautiful rendition of Consider the Lilies.

But whatever your talents, do not hide them under a bushel.

Hold them high like a Y on the mountain so others can see your light and glorify your Father in heaven.

Certainly, it was one of the pleasures of his society that you always felt he was there in person, bona fide, not by deputy, and no current notion of politeness could make him do a thing he did not enjoy doing.

One evening, we were looking over some fine engravings, mostly portraits, Gainsboroughs, Reynolds, Lilies, and others from Mrs. Gilchrist's collection.

He enjoyed them greatly and very deliberately, dwelling long and long over some of them, criticizing style, workmanship, composition, character, etc.

But when he'd had enough of it all, well, he said so.

That's where I met Eddie.

And we played Lilium three times.

Oh, I was awful.

When the war came, we got married.

Very often, as I sat beside him on the veranda, with the sun shining full on the green awning, and the roses nodding to us over the balcony, he would fall asleep.

And then a flower fairy would peep through the ferns and tell me the loveliest stories— The Rose Fairy came, and the Queen of the Lilies, with a lovely gold crown upon her head.

But my favorite fairy lived in a bed of violets.

Her frock was purple, and I knew when she was coming because the air all around grew sweet.
