In 1990, they won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album.

From there, they went on to be an integral part of the Lilith Fair.

a traveling music festival created by Sarah McLachlan, which featured solely female solo artists and female-led bands.

There, they shared the stage with other headliners such as Tracy Chapman, Jewel, Sheryl Crow, and many others.

I mean, honestly, you know, I think at some point people just...

They want to be in the same space, you know, and with each other too, you know, not just with the person playing, but with each other.

Speaking of how important live shows have been for you and also for the Indigo Girls, of course, that makes me think of Lilith Fair.

And, you know, you were talking about how for a moment you guys kind of crossed over into top 40 when Lilith Fair was around, when it began in the 90s, it was this cultural thing.

So sometimes those artists all blend in.

And this was a couple of years before that would all explode, you know, on the scene as the Lilith Fair.

You know, there was some, this big, I'm probably inarticulate to say this women, it's not a women's movement, but this, there was a bunch of female artists that exploded.

Kate Bush, I think, cracked open the doors for a lot of other ones that would soon follow.

So sometimes those artists all blend in.

There's this big, I'm probably inarticulate to say this women, it's not a women's movement, but there was a bunch of female artists that exploded.

the like gay, like gay women.

And I guess women in general, but especially gay women.

That's really the only festival I've gone to, I think.

think i'll have to continue to think about that but i mean there's such a big big theme these days and i looked it up you had we had uh coachella got started i think in the 90s you had a couple of woodstock celebrations in the 90s 94 99 those were disasters or at least the 99 one was a disaster uh what else did we have lilith fair was a was a festival

jay-z daisy chain festival um i can't remember the girl that's doing it but sarah mclaughlin started lily fair okay this gal it's called the daisy chain and it's sort of the same oh cool celebrate women yeah music kind of kind of thing and it's huge
