Great to be here.
D
1:44DamienHOST
So Jason, I'm going to ask you, we would know you, 97X listeners would know you from your time with Bob Mould's band, your touring basis for Superchunk, you have your own work as Split Single, and you've also recently completed the European leg of Michael Shannon, Jason Narducci, and Friends, where you're doing Life's Rich Pageant.
D
2:06DamienHOST
So you've done three tours with REM albums.
D
2:10DamienHOST
But we want to start from the start and go way, way back because you, my friend, much like Tommy Stinson, have spent an entire life in rock and roll.

so we're kind of learning as it goes and feel so fortunate when it goes well and um but yeah the cover band orbit or world i i'm i don't know that much about it
D
23:40DamienHOST
Well, I was fortunate enough, the closest you came to Cincinnati was Bloomington, which actually has significance with Life's Rich Pageant because some of it recorded there.
D

Episode 9: Fables of the Reconstruction
Z
50:31Zak PlucinskiHOST
So right now I'm really into it, but you know, that's just cause I've been listening to so much and I kind of got myself into the lore of it and, you know, delving into the research kind of gets you, little more invested so you know we'll see but right now i think i like it a little more than reckoning and i think reckoning is my least revisited album um for whatever reason i think
S
50:51Steve HollandHOST
i like reckoning maybe the best of the three but i appreciate this we'll talk about this as we get into it i think side two maybe isn't as strong as side one of this record but i also love that they're trying something different now you can feel this is a band that's sort of like digging deep and trying to figure out things and they're trying not to repeat themselves but figuring out who they are and i think without this album you don't it life's rich pageant which is so i think there's like a really interesting important transitional moment for them that i respect a lot yeah
Z
51:18Zak PlucinskiHOST
for sure and murmur still my favorite interesting so
E
51:20EllisGUEST
yeah i think reckoning's my favorite so far it's a lot of people's i think yeah um but you know like if this one like i said this whole time it's been frustrating i think i like it better than murmur but i feel like it also could have been my favorite if they stuck with the more kind of moody aspects yeah i do think Maybe like

And R.E.M., you know, with respect to all the other great American bands, the thing about R.E.M. is not only do they make brilliant music, they're my ideal of a band.
T
56:57Tony FletcherGUEST
of a successful band in that they were able to be very successful and maintain really high moral standards and I think to break up as friends after 15 albums and stay friends is just utterly remarkable and I am so glad I got to see them as much as I did and to be able to write about them and I wrote a biography of them that got continually updated And I was also landing at the time that their impact was probably at its greatest around Life's Rich Pageant and then Document.
T

Those are the years I started coming to America.

And I know a lot of people, you know, we've all got so long with a band.
