Life expectancy

This is a different way of graphing out the same exact information.

So the blue dots and the blue line associated with them is a healthy life expectancy at birth.

And then the red dots and the red line associated with that is the all cause mortality.

So dying from any reason, that's the red line.

And then down at the bottom of this graph is sodium intake in grams per day.

So you can see the red dotted line, that's the American Heart Association's recommendations.

You can see that it is associated with a lower life expectancy and with a higher all-cause mortality.

And then there's the World Health Organization recommendations.

The World Bank Group put together a list of countries with the highest life expectancy.

The countries that ranked highest tend to be wealthier, with solid health care systems, and countries with the lowest life expectancy face a lot more challenges like disease, malnutrition, and war.

Countries with the highest life expectancy, Monaco, 86.4 years, San Marino at 85.7 years, and Liechtenstein.

At 84 years, the U.S. came in in 48th place at 78.4 years.

Well, where would you think is the country with the highest life expectancy? And they say a lot of this has to do with how much money that country has, health care.

I kind of thought the U.S. would be up a little higher.

Monaco, by the way, was number one.

Here in the U.S., we're number 48 at 78.4 years.

And Bobby, you said, and I wanna drill down on this real quick, you said the average life expectancy in the US is somewhere in the vicinity of eighty, maybe a little younger for men?

Well, I can give you a few numbers to just at least ground our dialogue, to at least scratch our head and say, "Well, maybe ninety or ninety-five isn't written in stone." So survival, if you take it from an actuarial standpoint.

Now, just like intelligence, everybody wants to think they're above average.

Well, people are not doing FI calculations at birth.

Obviously, they're older.

So if you take somebody who's fifty-five, now what's their life expectancy? For a man, it's seventy-nine.

For a woman, it's eighty-two.

An awful lot of people have never been asked as I said whether they agree with that or if it tallies with their own preferences and outlook on such things and there's a lot going on there.

It's not necessarily just about life expectancy or what I hope to live for.

Two, it is more so about the financial planning and the numbers aspects when you are creating these plans.

But that one figure can have an impact on potentially how much risk or what your asset allocation is, what the rate of returns that you need to achieve to sustain your plan and your spending assumptions.
