Lidia Yuknavitch

Now, one of the big surprises for me recently is the directorial debut of actor Kristen Stewart.

She has adapted The Chronology of Water, Lidia Yuknavitch's bruising memoir about escaping a legacy of abuse and finding her voice as a writer, and it's a wonderful film.

It's got a great performance by Imogen Poots.

Stewart employs a bold, fragmented directorial style that recalls at times the avant-garde feminist collage filmmaking of Barbara Hammer, Sue Friedrich, or Australia's own Margot Nash.
