Liberty or Death

I'm sure I'm butchering the pronunciation of this game, but, uh, back in the early spring, I got a nice comment, uh, much appreciation from a listener with a few requests for games to consider covering in future episodes of the podcast.

And one was for a title called Liberty or Death, part of, uh, Koei's Historical Simulation series.

Uh, the only problem is it's an SNES release, and this is currently still an NES podcast.

Uh, yeah, it's Absolute Nintendo, but really, it's Absolute NES, right? [laughs] Uh, but Koei does have several Historical Simulation titles on the 8Bit machine.

Uh, so what to do? Well, after checking out some forums and wikis, albeit not digging too deep, uh, the general consensus seems to be that the closest NES equivalent to Liberty or Death, or Liberty and Death, excuse me, is L'Empereur, uh, referring to Napoleon Bonaparte, the French military commander and emperor, not Napoleon Dynamite.

[laughs] I'd probably do better with his, uh, accent, but I digress.

You know, both of these titles separate themselves from Koei's conventional Asian backdrops, as well as the time periods, you know, being more modern, early modern, right? And there, there's other things too that those who've played these games, or at least really pursued the forums [laughs] would know better than I.
