Li-Young Lee

So being Asian American means I have connection.

When we had a poetry contest, Marilyn Chin, who's Chinese American, was saying to Li-Young Lee, who's a Chinese American poet, she said, "You know, back in China, we wouldn't deal with each other because you came from-- your family came from the upper class, my family came from peasants.

But here, we can be friends." And she was talking also with me, Garrett, and Garrett Hongo, who's Japanese American.

And we wouldn't be friends with Garrett or, or David because they're Japanese.
