Lewis Mayo

Yeah, I posted something on social media earlier on the Saturday about just, again, probably more reflective of just how quickly things change in football that in July, I think it was very much clear Steve Robinson had spoken very much about how his preferred formation would be in a 4-3-3.

He was looking to play with two centre-backs and I think at that point, Lewis Mayo and Dan Happy were very much brought in as the kind of preferred candidates both got shots at the captaincy's armband during the league cup group stages and then fast forward just a couple of months and suddenly you're playing in a back three and it's all the incumbents it's Milne Knoster and Milloyal playing and yeah I think I think I think element I don't think you would have went to trouble of not having him in the squad at all if it wasn't an injury issue so we'll certainly go with that but I think it was interesting in that comparison between the circumstances in which Less so Mats Knoster, because again, I think once he was fit and available and with how well he'd done the previous season, I think there was always going to be an opportunity for him to get back in the game.

But maybe a comparison between how after the Dan Happy incident Gavin Belois came in slotting in the left starting back and as you were saying earlier Richard has really grabbed that opportunity I mean again I mean you can't you can't expect to be smacking in 25 yard daisy cutters in the bottom corner of the net but he's also been you know incredibly effective going forward he's ultimately responsible for the assist that leads to the goal that Kevin Nisbet scores albeit I think you'd give a lot more credit to Nisbet on that than you would to the assist but he's also been really assured and solid at the back and so while I did mention this last weekend while a lot of people are very keen to anoint Dan Happy as the worst centre half they've ever seen in their life and a poor man's Ash Taylor or whatever you're going to go through which I think is way over the top I actually think Dan Happy acquitted himself pretty well up until the point that he started having a brain fart or two and unfortunately then when you compare and contrast that with Jack Milne where again this really gave him the opportunity to put his hand up and stake a case to start more regularly on the right hand side of that back three for as long as we continue to play a back three I do wonder whether we might see with Quite a significant, probably the longest international break we'll have had in living memory.

I do wonder whether they'll have an opportunity maybe just to rethink the way they're playing for when we come back to a few more home games against teams that we would probably be expecting to beat and be looking to break down rather than sitting back on.

And again, that could have easily been a yellow card in itself.

I'm thinking eventually, Robinson's probably looked at that and says, I've got to get this guy off because I don't know if he's going to stay on the field.

So, the same kind of issues that probably made him think twice about bringing Happy back in as a starter and the same thinking about why he might have been reticent to use Lewis Mayo.

So yeah, really, really, really disappointing.

On the face of it, if you'd offer me a point, you know, at the beginning of the season, go through the fixtures and say, hey, we'll get a point both times at East Road, and beat Hibs at Petaudry, then it's a a great return.

The fact that we're 1-0 up, the fact that the Hibs don't really create any chances, it comes from Jack Milne making a decision to have his hands on his opponent, and when you do that, you give them a chance to go down, you give the referee a chance to make a decision.

That's really disappointing, especially because Milne's been out of the team this year so far, got a chance with Lewis Mayo going off, came in, did well against Motherwell, hoping he's still someone I look at as someone with potential for both ourselves and for a future sale, an asset we could possibly sell.

Absolutely not Halftime 1-0 the Dons with Lewis Mayo having been booked in the first half the manager clearly was in no mood for a similar calamity that we saw at the weekends where Jack Milne was introduced for Lewis Mayo at the break and we get off to a dream start as well second half Motherwell playing the ball around from kick-off, we set the trap, we get the press spot on, and it's the first time I think we've seen us do this under Robinson at all that we've been able to get this working correctly.

And we seemed to have given them the kickstart and, you know, that afternoon neither team looked really like they were gonna open the other side up.

Um, we kind of gift them a goal, big mistake from Lewis Mayo.

And, and this is probably gonna be a consistent criticism you can make about this side so far this season.

It was just a total lack of quality or fluency in the attacking areas.

Um, but, you know, it's, it's something stupid, stu- stupid that w- uh, that comes from us.

Um, you give away a penalty and, you know, when y- when a team like Aberdeen, where they're struggling at the moment, you just, you just can't afford to f- to, to make mistakes like that, can you?

Y- you really can't, and it's maybe timely that one of the causes of that, um, is an issue which has come back full circle with the, uh, the, the game yesterday because, again, it, it's, it's errors compounded by errors where, um, in the first hand, uh, yeah, Lewis Mayo, if he just gets the ball out, uh, and makes a proper clearance of it, then we probably got rid of the, the issue.

But, um, instead, um, it's fallen to think, was it, was it Kusama who was coming in, um, obviously a player with a hugely larger, uh, uh, or greater amount of pace than Dan Happy.

that's right so he obviously was on the bench for them yesterday but he gave Mayo a torrid time so see when it's down to 10 men, you're like, bring Owen on, get a bit of pace on because I've liked what I've seen of Owen in glimpses.

What values is he adding? Well, I think, because I

believe he's signing Lewis Mayo, or Cardin...

Why can't other teams get it right?

Whoever were to come in, is stuck with this group for at least until January when we'll you know no doubt Lutz will get his contact book from Hoffenheim out and find some more German duds and someone will have to try and make Lewis Mayo a top six player I mean like it's just it's completely fucked it really is I don't

even know where to go with it anymore like We've tried, you tried, bless you Gav, you tried to ask the solar system for some positivity out of today.

Maybe the only thing I would suggest is I thought Marshall did well when he came on.

He certainly has.

He lost a couple of defenders, two boys to Aberdeen, Lewis Mayo and the other boy, two centre-halves.

I think they were a big miss for him.

and he has sort of changed his attitude to the game, because he was always influencing two strikers, playing two strikers, but now they're getting battered, they're losing goals, he needs to look defensively how he stops the goals, and he can talk all he wants, but he's got a right problem in his hand this year.
