C.S. Forrester as the writer and Lewis Gilbert as the director to give so much more of that rapid context on what's going on and to get across that the hunt for Bismarck the British hunt for and the events that happen around it involved all these different ships so what you'd often normally do and we see this in Red October and we see this in later films and if you think of Greyhound the recent one which didn't C.S. Forrester write the novel for that well it's based off of a C.S. Forrester novel as well originally but is that in most of those there's a point in cinema where you realize actually what you need to do is you make the need to make the ship a character so the ship has to almost be a character in its own like the enterprise like the enterprise there is only one ship that's a character in this film and that's bismarck herself everything else is always if you think about it everything else well the british action everything else is centered around people they're using ships they're using planes as equipment but bismarck is the only ship that's really given her own personality so to speak

The, this is the, it's, I, I think it's no coincidence this is the third of three movies directed by Lewis Gilbert, and so many of the things that happen in this film [laughs] and so many of the things that happen with the villain's plot smack of You Only Live Twice and of The Spy Who Loved Me.

And but it's, a- and I, it's taken to the next level.

Like, if they had just stopped a few of the scenes and just moved on, I think this would've been a better film.

A bit annoying at the time, but then I went back and did Moonraker with the lovely Lewis Gilbert, who I did a number of films with.
