Welcome to Ask a Teacher where I'll answer some of your most common Norwegian questions.

The question for this lesson is, when do I write capital letters and when do I write lowercase letters in Norwegian? Norwegian and English have many similarities, but the way we use capital and lowercase letters is a little bit different.

Let's go over the differences so you can learn how to use capital and lowercase letters in Norwegian.

First, let's go over the similarities.

In Norwegian, just like English, we capitalize letters at the beginning of sentences, proper names, countries, and cities.

However, in Norwegian, we don't capitalize days of the week or months.

We also don't capitalize holidays such as Easter, which is påske, or the names of languages such as norsk, Norwegian, or engelsk, English.

In addition, nationalities are also written with lowercase letters.

His sister was on TikTok Live saying that Gypsy finally got what she wanted.

And people are suspicious because, I mean, not only did she unalive her mom, but she texted happy birthday and all like, not a caps, the opposite of caps, like under, what is that called? All lowercase? Lowercase.

All lowercase.

I'm like, under caps?

No exclamation point? Nothing.

No heart?

Lowercase.

No birthday

And really with a capital R? No.

Lowercase.

I'm not preposterous or anything.

Oh, shit.

But I'd already searched the commands, and all caps is not one of the commands.

Uppercase.

It's uppercase.

Yeah, you do have to be trained.

Okay.
