Let's Scare Jessica to Death

Um, it, it also starts with an interview.

It, it's f- funny that we just talked about Let's Scare Jessica to Death having the like she's in the boat at the beginning and then we sort of flashback-

Mm-hmm

... and we hate a lot of times that they do that, but that one was like whatever.

End quote.

As we've discussed before, Night of the Living Dead inspired a handful of imitations and arthouse variants, including Messiah of Evil, Let's Scare Jessica to Death, and The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue, all of which we've covered in previous episodes.

But Romero, worried about being typed, wasn't keen to continue in the horror genre and followed his immediate horror classic with a romantic comedy called There's Always Vanilla, a film that, even according to the director, is somewhat bland.

I know, and it's

not even like a movie like Let's Scare Jessica to Death or something like that where you're like, well, I guess these people could move to the country.

It's like, no, I don't understand.

Right.

Okay, let's get into our Saturday midnight.

So Saturday, October 10th, we have Let's Scare Jessica to Death from 1971.

Something is after Jessica.

Something very cold, very wet.

And very dead.

Recently released from a mental institution, a young woman hopes for a return to normal life, but soon finds her sanity unraveling after moving into a rundown farmhouse.

Hypnotically atmospheric and unforgettably unsettling, Let's Scare Jessica to Death is a 70s masterwork of mood-drenched horror.

I feel like this one got a second life after Kayla Janisse's House of Psychotic Women.
