LETRS

Okay.

I've been at this a long time, and I guess I'm best known at this point for being the lead author of LETRS Professional Development, and before that, I spent many years, uh, first as a teacher, then as a, um, uh, cons- sort of teacher consultant.

Then, uh, after my doctorate, I was a licensed psychologist for a long time doing evaluations of individuals of all kinds here in Vermont.

Um, and then I went into, um, uh, a challenging position as the consultant for the California Reading Initiative, uh, as their advisor for a year.

Uh, we were in high poverty schools trying to prove that if we use this, what is now known as the science of reading, that those kids who are high risk, uh, almost all Black kids, almost all kids in poverty, almost all kids at risk who started out, uh, with all the risk indicators, uh, in the beginning, uh, we had to demonstrate that using reading science, we would bring them along, and we did.

We were able to do that.

And then, um, after that, I went into, uh, mainly, um, developing LETRS professional development and a couple of other programs for teaching kids.

Um, and I have been, uh, really focused for the last 25 years on teaching teachers all the things that I have learned through all these wonderful experiences, and, uh, um, uh, I want to change the landscape of teacher education even more than I've been able to right now, and I want to ultimately make sure that we don't have kids falling through the cracks and failing to learn to read.
