Les Anglais

This is the story of how millions of dollars allocated for disaster victims disappeared into a system plagued by mismanagement, insufficient oversight, and alleged corruption, leaving disaster victims holding nothing but broken promises.

The Hurricane and the Promise Hurricane Matthew made landfall near Les Anglais in Haiti's southern peninsula on October 4, 2016, as a Category 4 storm with 145 mph winds.

It was the strongest hurricane to hit Haiti in over 50 years, and it struck a nation still struggling to recover from the catastrophic 2010 earthquake that had killed more than 200,000 people.

The destruction was comprehensive.
