I've actually anecdotally spoken to many climate writers some scientists who have told me that if you speak frankly and honestly about the climate science and the data and what we know you know a place like the new york times or the washington invite you on as a guest because those institutions most of all protect the financial markets and their stability

so and that doesn't just apply to the unknown scientists james hansen perhaps the best known climate science scientist talks about how the global warming is accelerating faster than the IPCC says, and what temperature targets are, and how much warming is in the pipeline, which, by the way, he co-wrote with our co-host Leon Simons, who will be on a little bit later.

That stuff is pretty out there, and yet the media did not really cover that.

One of the most important articles to come out in the last few years didn't really cover it very much, I think for some of the reasons you're saying.

And today we're gonna be talking about a bunch of, uh, different but, of course, related, uh, subjects of things that have been in the news recently regarding climate.

Uh, one of them is the Nepal flash flood, but there's also been a lot of news, not, not the kind of news that the public is hearing, by the way, [laughs] but a lot of news about, uh, global heat records in the oceans and things like that.

For example, the German Physical and Meteorological Societies issued a joint warning last year that the planet could warm by 3C over pre-industrial levels by 2050.

Leon Simons, a Dutch climate researcher and the executive director of the Club of Rome Netherlands, produced this useful thread on X about the warning.

Climate scientist Bill Hare, CEO of policy institute Climate Analytics, warned, This is just physics.

We're losing the ability to limit warming even by two degrees without strong action.
