Length overall, LOA, is the extreme length of the hull measured in a straight line between the bow and the stern, but in advertising, the term is sometimes used misleadingly to include projections such as a bowsprit.

Okay, that's a good point, right? So it's the extreme length of the hull, not including the bowsprit.

I'm having to do this with, um, with Osprey at the moment.

Bless her, she's 24.5 meters long, and if she was 23 meters and 99 centimeters, life would be so much easier administratively.

Um, but thank goodness she's not measured with the bowsprit, which would make the marina bills even more expensive.

So measuring the boat, LOA, it's not actually overall including all the bits that could crash into other boats.

So, um, be aware when talking to marinas about LOA.
