Len Smith

I think it's in the forties where they're deciding whether they allow the flick pass to come in and the legendary South Australian player and coach Ken Farmer says he doesn't agree with letting it in because you'll get more flicking than kicking.

So what happens is in the fifties Fitzroy coached by Len Smith, brother of Norm Smith, uh, They start using the flick pass, which then Footscray start using it as well.

Now, It's actually quite famous that in 1961, Ted Whitten is captain coach of the Dogs, and he gets his Footscray team to perfect the flick pass, and they really rise up the ladder all the way to the grand final.

They lose the grand final, but they are seen as the club that uses flick passes.
