Lemmings

This is the big one you spoke of.

This is Lemmings.

Yes, well, Lemmings is one of those things, isn't it? It's a bit of a phenomenon, I suppose, is one way of looking at it.

And it was, I think, probably really most famous on the Amiga, let's be honest.

I think everybody at a certain point played Lemmings on the Amiga.

I think when you had an Amiga, obviously.

Now, that's where I'd done all of my lemmingsing, for want of a better description.

Doesn't mean much, does it? No.

Ruh-roh.

Oh, one of those was supposed to be Scooby-Doo, and one of them was Lemmings, and I mushed them together.

Do you guys remember the game Lemmings? Oh, no.

They all pop.

Ruh-roh.

So in February the 14th, DMA Design released a certain puzzle game.

Called? Lemmings.

Lemmings.

Boom,

Lemmings in the house.

Which really did put the puzzle genre on the map.

Yeah.

It put computers, Amigas, properly on the map.

Or CMD had their CMD Smart Mouse with their real-time clock inside.

And none of them works with the original Lemmings release.

So that is why I always have this tank mouse laying there just for this one game.

Because it plays better on a mouse than on a joystick.

So mice on the C64-128 is a very, very complicated, complex topic.

It is.

You think it's pretty easy, but once you figure out, okay, there's an extra version for the Z128, and you figure out that games like Lemmings only support original, you are disappointed.

Because I know when I started with my Z64, I thought, okay, it says 1351 compatible, so I'm good to go.

But you do kind of miss a mouse.

... and you can't play it.

Dear Derek, which keyboard and mouse games are you hoping for on Evercade in the future?

Well, I'd love to see a Lemmings game.

That's what I would love.

I absolutely love Lemmings.

They're so brilliant, especially, you know, if Blaze are prepared to put in a bit of work like they have with Doom and bring us those brilliant Lemmings 1 and 2 and some Christmas Lemmings.

I want that.

I desperately want that demo of Christmas Lemmings on there.

I mean, that would just be magical.

Yeah, that's right.

And, um, yeah, I mean, that's the game it remi- I, I feel like it sits somewhere between Lemmings and The Lost Vikings.

Um, and you know, I actually assumed in my head, I think I even assumed this back then, I assumed that Goblins was directly inspired by Lemmings, 'cause Lemmings was such a huge hit, and is a puzzle game with a similar vibe of adorable little guys walking across the screen and stuff like that.

But I don't think the timetable works.

I think this game, I think Lemmings came out in, like, February of '91.

This one may count November of '91.

So surely there wouldn't be time to develop this game based on the success of Lemmings, which didn't happen overnight.

Yeah, no way.
