Lee Chang-dong

Again, the action, the humor, the visuals, great stuff.

Despite this movie's presence at Cannes, I don't expect it ultimately to be the Korean submission for Best International Feature Film at the Oscars because Lee Chang-dong's Possible Love is coming out with Netflix behind it.

You'd have to imagine that film, his first film in eight years since Burning, you'd have to imagine that film will get the true push towards an Oscar nom and Hope ultimately being a genre action movie about protecting yourself against aliens similar to how Colony is a zombie action movie those aren't really Oscar material films at the end of the day it's really cool that Hope was at Cannes definitely a bit of a different flair from usually film festival fare but I think Possible Love would be the betting favorite to ultimately get that nomination Let me know, what did you think of Hope? You know, it's coming out to us now in a pretty wide release from Neon.

I'm very curious to see how this movie does.

I missed actually Wild Horse 9 because I just arrived on September 5th.

And my favorite one so far is by Lee Chang Dong, Possible Love.

I miss that one.

It's

No Other Choice, of course, from Park Chan-wook, of course, from last year, and then Parasite, you know, probably most famously.

So I feel like this is going to be Lee Chang-dong's entry into that.

But of course, knowing his style, which is very distinct from those two directors, I'm curious to see what his spin is going to be on it.

But I'm looking forward to a lot of mystery.

This is South Korea's international submission.

Netflix title, Lee Chang-dong returning, eight years since Burning.

Now, the general consensus seems to be it's not as good as Burning, but very few movies are.

Yeah.

Don't know why.

Can't explain it.

If anybody can overcome that, though, it's an established filmmaker like Lee Chang-dong and it's Netflix.

Clips from a press conference held over in Venice, Italy for Possible Love, the latest work by globally acclaimed South Korean director Lee Chang-dong, has been going global, mainly due to the reaction by the reporters who charged at the Korean team right after the session ended.

I saw that video.

Those reporters seem to have forgotten about their jobs for a few minutes there.

It happened at the official presser and photo call held in Venice on Sunday local time.

The director was joined by lead actors Jeon Do-yeon, Seol Kyung-gu, Cho Yeo-jung, and Cho In-sung at the event, which lasted about half an hour.

As soon as it wrapped up, the reporters in the audience rushed to the front of the stage, waving notebooks or posters, seeking autographs, most of them crowding director Lee Chang-dong.

It looked like Lee Chang-dong was a mini celebrity there at the press conference.
