David, you've been tracking the fallout as funders retreat from gender in a development work across Latin America and beyond.

You wrote this week about restructuring and layoffs at prominent gender lens champion ProMujer.

What happened there?

We did that for a little while.

And then I got laid off from my job and we pivoted.

We decided to do a kind of podcast that was more reflective of our relationship.

And so that is the way Gin and Juice was born.

But I was on maternity leave after having my second daughter.

I had her November 10th, 2021.

I was laid off on May 17th, 2022.

I was still on mat leave.

due to their so-called investments in AI.

And I think you and I as insiders to these companies really want to talk to professionals who are worried about getting laid off or have experienced transition and what we're seeing in terms of how can you stay relevant? First of all, let me ask you, have you ever been laid off before? Yeah.

So I have to admit to you, I've never been laid off, but I've been fired about three times.

No,

seriously.

I've

never been fired, but I've been laid off.

I've never, at least that I know of.

Mm-mm.

Um, we'll also take a, a look at the current state of tech layoffs in 2026.

Now, for any of you who spend time on LinkedIn, but also for those of you who have a kind of wide, uh, network of contacts, you'll, you'll know at least one person, maybe more, who's been affected by the current state of the jobs market.

But does this apply to the cybersecurity industry, is the question.

Yeah.

Nowhere is safe.

And when we look at it, you'll get a sense of this and the percentage of tech layoffs overall, how many of those are in cyber.

Mm.

Coming from Fast Company, "Tech layoffs August update: Google, TikTok, Etsy & Zillow are slashing hundreds of roles as job losses pile up in 2026." I think, like, this year so far there have been more layoffs in tech than there was all of last year, and that year-

Uh, TikTok lays off 250 workers as it closes its Nashville office.

I didn't even know they had a Nashville office.

They said, uh, "The layoffs affect the employees at the company's Nashville office that primarily deals with content moderation." Uh-oh.
