What I like about this and what's happening in music right now, we kind of touched on a little while ago, too, is that when you're doing cover songs, if you're going to do them, either do them perfectly or do them so differently that it sounds like a different song.

And I use Layla.

by clapton when it came out on 461 and then it came out acoustically as the same song entirely different yeah yeah the civil wars with billy jean another one of my favorite examples that that sounds so differently by them versus michael jackson's like pop disco version

He wasn't so bad that he was, like, nodding off and totally incoherent, but it c- kinda numbed him, and he was just like, "Well, if George leaves, if he's not back by Tuesday, let's get, let's get Eric." You know, 'cause they'd already, Clapton had already played, um, the solo on My Guitar Gently Weeps, uh, and he was best friends with, with George Harrison.

And then I don't know if every- one is aware of the, the [laughs] cross-pollination of Pattie Boyd, who was George Harrison's wife, and of course, the, Layla was, the, the song Layla was about George Harrison's wife and having the affair with her, uh, Clapton.

And I should s-

The love triangle.

Susan was born on the day the record came out, which is pretty wild.

And so, let, so we were in, we were in London doing Albert Hall for a few weeks on that Clapton tour, and my dad was going through some, some stuff at home, so I flew him out, and we get there and Eric invite, he's like, "Why don't you bring the family out" to like his estate outside of London where he lived with Pattie Boyd, where he lived with Layla.

And my father, who's a roofer from Jacksonville, I see he's sitting there having tea with Eric Clapton.

[laughs] He like named his kid after that record, and I'm thinking, "How did this, how did this happen?" [laughs] Like, in what-

I mean, I can think of s- like, some of my favorite nights ever in life, and especially in music, were on stage there.

I mean, Clapton came out and sat in with The Allmans, which never happened.

[laughs] Like, it, Duane played on the Layla record, and then Duane passed away, and there was never really any connection after that.

So that was a pretty intense one.
