On the offensive side, Tim, I know you're a huge fan right now of Oliver Miller, who's really stepped up.
M
61:23Mitch FortnerHOST
Heck, Lawson McGraw got in there for 10 plays, and I thought he did a pretty solid job.
M
61:26Mitch FortnerHOST
His very first play, he's out for a pass.
M
61:29Mitch FortnerHOST
And he sat in the zone.

S
18:40Scott McFarlandHOST
Or have Lawson McGraw and Michael Capria, the backup center.
S
18:44Scott McFarlandHOST
Have them practicing that for five minutes a day, just under center exchange, and then kind of moving forward.
S
18:54Scott McFarlandHOST
Every single day when they're running through the game script, when those guys aren't in there, have them comfortable snapping to each other.
S
19:01Scott McFarlandHOST
Have a wide receiver and Avery Johnson come out.
S
19:04Scott McFarlandHOST
have Michael Cabrera and Lawson McGraw come in, and then just find a way to push it in.
S
19:09Scott McFarlandHOST
Because the fact that we got Stonewall twice at the goal line to end the third quarter and start the fourth quarter, that could have been a disaster.
S
19:17Scott McFarlandHOST
You have to find a way to get it in.
K-State vs. KU - Win! - Episode 94
A
9:33Aaron DeckerHOST
But Oliver Miller to the rescue.
A
9:36Aaron DeckerHOST
We all ask the question about 12 personnel and what are they going to do? And is it Lawson McGraw, who, by the way, got snaps? But what were they going to do? Did they have to just retire entire chunks of their offense because they don't have enough personnel? And Oliver Miller, a true freshman, offensive tackle, wearing number 45 to the rescue.
A
10:02Aaron DeckerHOST
I don't think enough people are making how big of a deal this is.
A
10:07Aaron DeckerHOST
that K-State was able to put in a true freshman who missed the first three games or four games of the season, I guess the first three games of the season, and put him in a tight end, I would argue, H-back position that allowed them to run chunks of offense that they otherwise would not have been able to do.
A
11:36Aaron DeckerHOST
In motion.
A
11:39Aaron DeckerHOST
We also talked about it.
A
11:40Aaron DeckerHOST
We saw young Lawson McGraw out there.
A
11:42Aaron DeckerHOST
He got a handful of snaps.

C
34:17Cole ManbeckHOST
I mean, we knew they would have to because Garrett Oakley was unavailable.
C
34:20Cole ManbeckHOST
They had to run this game with one true pass-catching tight end, and then Lawson McGraw, true freshman, got a decent amount of snaps but like up front was there anybody that stood out on the offensive line to you that
D
34:34Derek YoungHOST
it's hard to see a lot of that live and trench play it's one of the hardest things to do it's like last couple weeks I don't know if anyone's been watching the uh the London games in the morning on Sundays and Jason Kelsey's calling the game he's really good at seeing that offensive line and defensive line play live it's really hard to pick out a guy that can do that is kind of a rarity so I think you've got a bright future because of that so it's really hard for me to say individually like what I will say a general observation that I was able to make is the KU edge rushers were getting some push there they were beating the tackles I thought Ryan Howard and Gus Hawkins but it was almost like a I don't know if a ploy is the right word to say it but a strategy where I think they were understanding that they were going to be on the edge a little bit with speed rushes and all that.
D
35:27Derek YoungHOST
KU is really good speed rush, too, with Leroy Harris and the other guy that they have that poses a threat.
Postgame Live: 18 Straight
M
32:53Mason VothHOST
And so maybe having Garrett Oakley would've, would've been greater for them as opposed to they only had one legitimate tight end out there that they were comfortable throwing the ball to.
M
33:01Mason VothHOST
Because I guess I'd be interested how many times when Lawson McGraw was on the field that he was actually, like, running a route and was a viable pass catcher.
D
33:10Drew GallowayHOST
Uh, I'm also not a doctor, but I would get Garrett Oakley on some antibiotics, and I think that he'd be ready to go by next week.
M
33:18Mason VothHOST
Uh, nope, nope.
19 MINS LATER
M
51:59Mason VothHOST
PFF, I say pff.
F
51:59FanPANELIST
[laughs]
D
52:01Drew GallowayHOST
'Cause, 'cause I was actually looking this up because, you know, we brought up on the offense, uh, Lawson McGraw coming in and Adonis Moore's coming in.
D
52:09Drew GallowayHOST
Lawson McGraw, 10 snaps, six were passes.
K-State vs. KU Preview - Ep93
A
3:22Aaron DeckerHOST
We came out and we ran 11 personnel after 11 personnel after 11 personnel and rarely on occasion would go 12 personnel.
A
3:29Aaron DeckerHOST
And that's just an indication that They don't feel comfortable going to that third tight end that they would need Lawson McGraw or Owen Harrington.
A
3:40Aaron DeckerHOST
I'm not even going to say the Elias Wilson kid because he's a project, but they don't feel comfortable doing that.
A
3:46Aaron DeckerHOST
And so they have to be sporadic in how they approach their play calling and use those two tight ends because that's it.
A
7:26Aaron DeckerHOST
Gigantic difference.
A
7:29Aaron DeckerHOST
And if Garrett Oakley's out, then I don't think they have a choice.
A
7:33Aaron DeckerHOST
Lawson McGraw, welcome to D1 football.
A
7:35Aaron DeckerHOST
Or Owen Harrington.
Friday Grab Bag: Houston Week
C
16:55Cole CarmodyGUEST
How do they utilize those dang tight ends? We know K-State loves to use three tight ends.
C
17:01Cole CarmodyGUEST
Well, guess what? They might not have them now, and Lawson McGraw likely steps in as tight end number three, but I'm not so sure we'll see the true freshman.
C
17:09Cole CarmodyGUEST
I have a feeling it's going to be the Lincoln Kieran, Garrett Oakley show.
C
17:12Cole CarmodyGUEST
Now, what does that mean? Well, it probably means you'll see more three wide out sets.
K-State vs. Houston Preview - Ep92
A
10:14Aaron DeckerHOST
And certainly we will see 12 personnel looks without a doubt.
A
10:18Aaron DeckerHOST
But if they have to rep someone in due to either injury or they need a break, is it Lawson McGraw, true freshman? His name was mentioned in the broadcast or the press conference earlier this week.
A
10:31Aaron DeckerHOST
What about Owen Harrington, junior college transfer from Foothill College out of California? Met his mom at Power Play at the park, by the way.
A
10:40Aaron DeckerHOST
She was dressed very nicely, you know, had like a shawl and long pants and a long-sleeved shirt.
A
11:25Aaron DeckerHOST
Because Arlie Morrell, the stud from Pratt that we picked up, Over the summer, he's out for the year.
A
11:30Aaron DeckerHOST
He's hurt.
A
11:30Aaron DeckerHOST
So when we look at our tight end personnel, I don't feel like that they've got a lot of great feelings about Lawson McGraw as it relates to, hey, he's ready for primetime.
A
11:39Aaron DeckerHOST
I think he could see the field in the way where we've got to have someone in there and he's our best bet.
The K-State Pregame Show: Previewing Kansas State vs. No. 22 Houston
T
6:54Tim FitzgeraldHOST
So he's out.
T
6:57Tim FitzgeraldHOST
Who's the third tight end? Uh, Lawson McGraw? I'm not sure.
T
7:01Tim FitzgeraldHOST
What, what are your thoughts on that position? Because being in 12 personnel, one back, two tight ends, is almost the preferred set for Collin Klein's offense.
T
7:11Tim FitzgeraldHOST
He's still got two good ones in Cure and Oakley, but you can't have them on the field the whole time.
T
7:23Tim FitzgeraldHOST
He was more functioning like the second guy, but Cole, they, they gotta keep this going 'cause this was, this is about changing their entire offense if they can't k- have three tight ends in rotation.
C
7:33Cole CarmodyHOST
Agreed.
C
7:34Cole CarmodyHOST
Um, you know, it's gonna come down to either true freshman, Lawson McGraw, a- as you mentioned, or Owen Harrington's another guy they got brought in from junior college.
C
7:42Cole CarmodyHOST
He's more of a blocking back.
