Lawrence Wright, the New Yorker staff writer, has a new book out now about that friendship.

It's titled Redemption.

And he talked to NPR Steve Inskeep about what that word means for people on death row, guilty or not.

So it turns out being on death row and being a nun are actually kind of similar if we're talking about your basic day to day.

Here's Lawrence Wright.

Well, to start with the fact they both live in rooms that they call cells.

It's written by Brian Curtis.

It's called Why Lawrence Wright Believes.

It's about the acclaimed writer Lawrence Wright, longtime writer for The New Yorker, also the author of many acclaimed books, including The Looming Tower about the origins of the 9-11 attack.

Okay, so there's a cool article here about Wright's story.

There's some cool points in here, including the fact that living in Austin took him more out of the mainstream of what was going on and events and hanging out with other writers like would have happened if he lived in New York.

And I think this is for the looming tower.

So for those who are listening, this is the organizational system.

That Lawrence Wright uses for his research.

I, you know, cause they are coming out of a prison of belief.

That is literally the phrase we use, um, because it's so at Lawrence Wright came up with it.

And it's just, I've just never heard three words that better describe what's going on with somebody in one of these groups is, is, is a prison of belief.

Exactly.

Journalist and author Lawrence Wright, the guy who wrote The Looming Tower on the circumstances around 9-11 and also Going Clear, the bombshell expose of the industry that is Scientology.

he did an extensive deep dive on lave's past and uncovered no evidence to support that he was ever part of a circus

yeah

Yeah, right.

And also says that the SFPD used his skills as a psychic investigator for a while.

This is going to shock you, but Lawrence Wright also could find no evidence of him ever working for SFPD.

Survey says that was a lie.

But, like, it is.

And – While I was reading this book, I was listening to a book called Redemption by Lawrence Wright, which is about women on death row in Texas.

Oh,

perfect.
