It never really occurred to me that there was this lacuna, there was this huge absence of women.

And only when I started to research, think of the idea and research the book, I went to the Imperial War Museum, where there's this incredible incredible painting, Laura Knight, and you look at it and it's this amazing six foot oil painting and it depicts the courtroom, the courtroom 600.

And it is literally a sea of men, male lawyers, male, you know, male defendants, male men, men, men, you know, as Rebecca West, who's one of the women says, a man's world, a man's world.

And you have to lean in very, very closely to see that the artist is actually a woman, Dame Laura Knight.

And that made me start thinking, gosh, who else? What other women are in this story? And I found a phenomenal cast of women who played so many pivotal roles at Nuremberg.

in the process and the outcome of the trial.

And the frustrations of being a woman at Nuremberg, so important, so consequential, so pivotal to the process, yet silenced and unable to have her voice heard.

Just let's stay with her for a minute, because what I really, really loved about this book, because it was so much bigger than just about Nuremberg, it was about the fact that most of these women, and particularly her, sank back into total sort of marriage obscurity after the trial.
