Laura Jane Grace

I became strangely emotional, like legit trying not to cry emotional from being there.

Laura Jane Grace from Against Me! was our tour guide, and she was fantastic.

She said this thing that really crystallized the feeling I was having while on that tour.

She said that punk rock is about broken people, broken kids coming together and being put back together again by punk rock.

You know, I always c- I always knew that obviously, but it just really hit me over the head when I was there, and I mean it.

I was, I was trying not to cry.

Laura Jane Grace was just fucking incredible.

Like, she nailed the tour, and then she played at the end of this thing, and, uh, I mean, it was, it was heavy.

We talk about, you know, DIY, emo.

We talk about fucking Laura Jane Grace, Jeff Rosenstock.

We talk about the Cincinnati Bengals and the goddamn fucking Chargers.

Big boys and DIY.

I mean, he is a global fucking superstar, okay? But he is so good at being a human, just relating to people.

You can't speak to Laura Jane Grace, but you could speak to Bruce Springsteen.

That's some serious fandom there on your part.

Well, no, like, well, the thing with, like, the Laura Jane Grace, too, like, I'm one of those people who, like, I don't want to sit there and take up too much of someone's time, you know? You didn't know, like, if she wanted a break between that? Because I know how I am.

Like, I get, like, where I'm like, okay, I like people, but, like, I also need... you know, you need like a little bit of downtime too.

And she was doing that.

It's always kind of changing on what I'm listening to the most.

Against Me is one of my favorite bands, just the way Laura Jane Grace writes songs.

but then I also discovered the mountain goats and I realized where a lot of her inspiration came from.

I was like, Oh, a lot of this structure, you know, came from OG mountain goat songs and stuff.

Welcome to episode 564 of The Vinyl Guide, the podcast for record collectors and music nerds.

And dear people, this week we are welcoming to the show someone I've always wanted to have on, Laura Jane Grace, who you may know from her work with Against Me!, the band she founded many decades ago.

Uh, she's got several other projects.

Or even know Laura Jane Grace from her personal story or activism.

Anyway, she joins us today to talk records, music, the rarities of her collection and catalog, and, uh, we also talk about some of the upcoming tours and time she's gonna have at the Punk Rock Museum, September 18th, 19th and 20th.

Guided tours, acoustic sets, book readings and more.

If you're anywhere near Las Vegas September 18th through 20th, secure your tickets at thepunkrockmuseum.com and spend some time with Laura Jane Grace.

She's got a lot to say, a lot of cool stuff at the Punk Rock Museum as well.

He looks like the singer of Against Me.
