Larry Levis

I had a job at Ford Motors, Rossington, Parks Point.

This poem, Transitory Memory, I wrote this in honor of Larry Levis.

The first line, The Future of Hands, is a title of one of his poems in The Dollmaker's Ghost, Transitory Memory.

The future of hands came at me, one after another, hand after hand, clutch and grab, pulled here and there.

The future of hands came at me, one after another, hand after hand, clutch and grab, pulled here and there.

You know, I read him with a dictionary, you know? I took, I was really, really lucky and I didn't take this class because I couldn't for some reason.

But when I was at the University of Utah doing my PhD, there was a class offered by Larry Levis, who was pretty, deeply into the drugs at that point um but he had been a student of my teacher and so we you know felt a connection and i thought okay this guy's offering a class on wallace stevens i don't really want to read a lot of a lot of wallace stevens voluntarily but i'm not going to miss this class so i sat in on the class and um larry was did either of you know him or

no i just this the work

he was so erudite, but he hit it so well.

Y yo iba pasando de un libro a otro.

Así que estaba sentado allí en la mesa, sacaba un libro y decía: "Oh, mencionan a otro poeta llamado Larry Levis.
