Laney Choboy

I got down 23-22, gave the lead away in that second set.

And then I think talk about Laney Choboy was the one that got into the huddle and said, hey, we are not losing this match.

And there's a timeout at that point.

They come out of it and the seniors just took over.

For the first time this season, she was hitting over 300 every single match up until these last couple.

And to see her kind of bounce back from that and finish the weekend strong, I think is a sign of her mental toughness and is great for the team moving forward and for her.

I think someone that also deserves to be talked about more is Laney Choboy.

And obviously she's not starting right now as a senior, but she's coming in making an incredible impact, especially from the service line.

So it's five of the ten.

Five of the ten, which is crazy.

That, to me, was, that, to me, was not what I would like to see as far as women's sports and-

Talk to me about the libero position.

Olivia Mock, Laney Choboy.

Are you surprised how that's gone so far? Do you think it's kind of a feeling out process? What are your thoughts on that?

I was surprised initially because I thought Troy made a little bit of leg up because she finished strong last year as a libero too.

You will never convince me that that didn't mean something for them, that there wasn't something extra special about being able to serve Texas off the court during that run.

So in the second set, once again, kind of Texas jumped out to a lead, but I mean, Nebraska service pressure and this time from Laney Choboy, which again, another senior, another person who lived through that really brought them back.

And so from there, they just like kind of kept going, gradually building this eight point lead.

Texas would try to come back.

And then Olivia Mao getting that libero jersey.

Haven't seen a switch up to Laney Choboy yet.

What do you make of that and what Laney's or what Olivia's been able to do so far in that role?

Yeah, I think, I mean, Buzz from Kelly said it's going to be kind of similar to last year where, I mean, they're going to have to go out and earn it every single week.

and also seven aces she has, so she's going to be a threat from the end line.

So that's the player that Nebraska's going to have to circle at the top of their scouting report against Missouri.

It was really incredible to see Laney Choboy open up in a way that I don't think she really has, and I don't think her story's really been told to Nebraska fans in the way that it We did.

But anyway, they beat a team that beat them once before.

The Huskers seniors Harper Murray, Bergen Riley, Andy Jackson, Laney Choboy are 101-6 in their careers at Nebraska and they have now avenged by definition of that word, every loss in their careers except for the Texas A&M match from the regional final last year.

So this was a clock cleaning.

Nebraska was not spectacular in any way.

I assume she'll be in that spot again today.

Is that something where you get consistency this year? Or is that another, hey, depending on the matchup, we're going to throw Choboy in at Libero this game.

How is that handled throughout the season? So that was a takeaway from last night.

And John Cook and Becca Alec were the two most prominent people in that feature that took up the, you know, what, about eight of the first 20 minutes of the show yesterday.

Yeah.

You know, Harper Murray, Andy Jackson, Bergen Riley, Laney Choboy, Danny Busboom Kelly.

And they and they introduced the piece as being Danny Busboom.

Regardless, Bill, to get back to volleyball here, is it national championship or bust this year for the Huskers? It's so hard to put that expectation on a team, but you look at them.

If this core with Bergen Riley, Andy Jackson, Harper Murray, Laney Choboy were to end their Husker careers without a national championship, it would feel like such a what-if story and kind of a what could have been.

100%, as our friend Sam Hoiberg would say.

They came in with such high promise as one of Nebraska's best ever recruiting classes, even though Andy Jackson had not played a ton.

Bergen Riley, number four overall.

Laney Choboy was the number five overall prospect.

Caroline Juravicious, who obviously ended up leaving Nebraska for Penn State, was the number seven overall player in the country.

And then Andy Jackson was the number 13 overall prospect.

I'm sure that that is on Bergen Riley's radar.

You know, can she challenge to be on the Team USA Olympic team in 2028 and try to lead Team USA to another Olympic gold as a, you know, Husker hero Jordan Larson did at one point as well.

Now, you don't want to leave out Laney Choboy and Caroline Juravicious from that group.

Not really a great comp for Juravicious, unless maybe she's Chris Webber being the first one to leave the institution, at least in that mindset.
