Oh, we've talked about that.

Of Lake Merritt.

Yeah.

That's a really good one.

We went to Jack London.

They had like little food vendors outside by Lake Merritt.

And we just got back maybe an hour ago.

I messaged you what, like way earlier or yesterday? So here's the thing.

It was about white people calling the cops on Black people and Permit Patty and Barbecue Becky and this whole like meme phase.

And at core, the problem wasn't like a little Black girl selling water on a stoop or like a Black family barbecuing on Lake Merritt in Oakland.

The problem was a white person who did not know how to hold their own discomfort.

Yeah.

And so I was all about running, running, running, running.

And what was nice about that is, you know, I had joined this running club that I think we've talked about that, you know, happened to run right outside my house, like, you know, around Lake Merritt.

So it was just like, you know, on Wednesday evenings, I could just, you know, get home from work, change and just pop right outside and join this group.

And part of why I loved running with this group is because there was this girl that I met there who happened to be someone that I really wanted to be good friends with.

I was getting faster and I was just like, man, I'm going to beat this girl and it's going to be spectacular.

So as I was training that year, winter transitioning into spring, you know, it was no big deal to get up and get a nine or 10 mile run in.

So a couple of loops around this or the Lake Merritt trail.

And suddenly I would say probably like late February, March, where I was having more and more difficulty getting around the lake.

Police say he died by suicide after the shooting.

This morning, progress is being made on a wildfire forcing evacuations near the Lake and Mendocino County lines.

The Lucas Fire has burned forty-one hundred acres since sparking on Thursday, and yesterday, crews announced containment was up to twenty-five percent.

Officials say a surge of resources, cooler temperatures, and lighter winds helped them make big progress.

Two vehicles collided near Deer Valley and Balfour Road, sending one down a hill where the driver and a passenger in a silver Infiniti died at the scene.

Police are still investigating what caused that crash.

In Oakland, an apartment fire near Lake Merritt sent one person to the hospital.

Crews got to Jackson and 17th Streets within three minutes of yesterday's fire being reported, and found a second-floor unit engulfed.

When they have a duel, the famous drum duel they would do, you're just like, oh my God, how could two guys be so talented like that?

And Lake Merritt, I mean, I could walk to Lake Merritt from my house.

They had band concerts every Sunday.

I'd go there and listen to them.

The PM service is always the toughest one, right? I remember, how many of us remember the hall at Lake Merritt, across from Lake Merritt with the green in front of there? And that hall was my nemesis as a young person.

They'd have the lunch in between services and you have the tryptophan effect, right? Either your turkey or your chicken.

And then it was hot, right? That hall would just get really warm.
