Todd JeffriesHOST

Details about his death are not known, but officials, well, let me back up.
Todd JeffriesHOST
97:40
He reportedly died outside Lagavista City limits and neither the city nor Travis County currently commenting on the circumstances surrounding his death.
Todd JeffriesHOST
97:50
We have a good hunch because we've got some sources out there.
Todd JeffriesHOST
97:52
But, gosh, any time this story about Lago Vista police lately, at least over the past year, pops up, I get a barrage of text messages from Lago Vista police officers and others in the business, if you will, talking about how Lago Vista PD has kind of got some problems that's being investigated, some management issues.
Todd JeffriesHOST
98:12
I don't know what that is.
Lance RobertsHOST
29:27
You build a Walmart somewhere, and it was interesting.
Lance RobertsHOST
29:29
So we were up in this little town called Lago Vista.
Lance RobertsHOST
29:35
over the weekend on Friday, and they won't allow a Walmart or an HEB.
Lance RobertsHOST
29:41
We were like, you know, they have like their grocery store is Brookshire Brothers, and we were talking to some people, and they're like, oh, yeah, the city council got developed.
Dale MorganGUEST
3:03
You know, people ask me all the time, I know Austin Country Club was your most favorite place to be or your most favorite job, and And it was a great job, and I spent 30 years there, and I'm still there today as a golf pro emeritus and love going out there and spending time with the members and being part of that facility.
Dale MorganGUEST
3:21
But all the golf courses I was at, whether it was at Brown Municipal Golf Course, Cottonwood Creek up in Waco, or Lago Vista back in the early 90s, which kind of got me down in this area, or even River Place, where I first met and spent a lot of time with Tom Kite.
Dale MorganGUEST
3:37
You know, all of those facilities... did exactly the same thing.
Dale MorganGUEST
3:43
We were all in the hospitality business, every one of us.
Todd JeffriesHOST

Listen, calls for increased safety are, uh, are increasing in Lago Vista following a tragic death of a 14-year-old boy that happened, uh, this past Friday.
Todd JeffriesHOST
16:13
Lago Vista police say the teenager was on one of those e-moto bikes when he lost control and crashed.
Todd JeffriesHOST
16:19
He wasn't wearing a helmet.
Todd JeffriesHOST
16:21
Uh, no other vehicles were involved in the crash, but Lago Vista resident David Von Oglerking, he tells KXAN the city needs to focus more on educating young people about, uh, the safety of these bikes.
Todd JeffriesHOST
16:32
Amazon says it notified- Hang on a second.
Todd JeffriesHOST

Olivia AldridgeCORRESPONDENT
4:41
Um, community me- community members who have said, you know, Central Health has raised taxes a number of times over the past few years at the same time as there have been increases from the city, the county, you know, the school district, and that can really add up.
Olivia AldridgeCORRESPONDENT
4:54
So the mayor of Lago Vista is one person who's kind of pushed back and questioned if the services this tax increase would fund would really benefit the communities outside of Austin as well.
Jerry QuijanoHOST
5:05
From your reporting, do you anticipate that the county commissioners will approve this budget, and do you anticipate that there will be a, a long process to get it approved?
Olivia AldridgeCORRESPONDENT
5:13
Commissioners typically have approved the budget submitted by Central Health, but it's also not unprecedented for them to push back on some areas of the budget or ask for a delay of a week or two weeks so they can hash some things out.
Jack FarrellHOST
43:46
A good one for the private schools, St. Michael's and Hyde Park.
Jack FarrellHOST

Dave, welcome to the podcast.
PeterHOST
7:32
A little bit about your first few years at Lago Vista.
Dave StewartGUEST
7:34
Well, I worked for Lago Vista, which is... just outside the city of Austin in central Texas.
Dave StewartGUEST
7:45
And we're a hard rock limestone country, basically.
Dave StewartGUEST
7:52
The city of Lago Vista, until about six years ago, was the second land-wise largest city in Travis County, which meant that we had water lines going everywhere, but we had a rare opportunity really low population density of 465 people per square mile, whereas other cities like Round Rock and Austin had a population density of 2,600 to 2,800, which made water loss extremely large compared to them because we had few users and a lot of pipe.
Dave StewartGUEST
8:38
Well, all those bells and spigots were leaking at every 20 feet.
Dave StewartGUEST
8:47
And we started looking at a 35, 37% water loss.

Both of the revised 6% rate scenarios you've seen today provide Central Health's contribution to those critical mental health investments, subject to further board approvals, while maini- remaining mindful of the financial pressures facing taxpayers.
Todd JeffriesHOST
19:17
Lago Vista's mayor, Shane Salm, he's called our show a few times.
Patrick OsbornHOST
19:21
Mm-hmm.
Todd JeffriesHOST
19:21
He attended that Central Health, uh, board meeting, and he told them that he's not on board with this idea, and he thinks most of the residents of Lago Vista wouldn't be either if they actually knew what they're being taxed on.
speaker_10SOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
19:32
We don't have any tangible direct services supplied in the city of Lago Vista, and most citizens that I talk to are not even aware that they are part of the Central Health taxing district and what this tax is going towards.
Patrick OsbornHOST
19:43
Mm-hmm.
Todd JeffriesHOST
19:43
Yeah, yeah.
