I went to university, went into one lecture, had a panic attack, walked out, was sweating off this anxiety attack around the streets of Oxford in the UK, went back to my university bedroom, and luckily, that was the year that Facebook and social media sprung into everyone's conscious, and I remember becoming completely obsessed with it.

And I ran down to my housemate's room and I said...

This was the year I started UNILAD and LADbible, these two social media brands, and I, I said, "Philip, what do you think of the name UNILAD?" And he turned and blew out this puff of marijuana smoke and said, "Yeah, that's really cool, man." So with the focus group of Philip, the, the, the, the, the name was stuck.

Um, but I had a problem because nobody knew about UNILAD.

We call it Lynx deodorant.

Oh, it's part of Ladbible.

It's part of the Ladbible empire.

So that's, yeah.

So the other places were the Daily Mail, which is one of the most evil newspapers to ever exist.

Yeah, so he used to do, he was like an agency.

We worked at Ladbible at one point.

So he was doing social media posts and all that sort of stuff.

So he knows social media.

We have talked about this for maybe two years now since you and I were invited onto the Lad Bible thing with a bunch of legends, Liz McConaughey, Pash Munro.

And, you know, channels like Unilad and Ladbible, which are like big English corporations here,

picked it up and it was translated into like 16 different languages.

Wow.

Maybe we got to run some stuff that was like, let's just pause for a second and look at things you know it sounds like such a simple thing to do but so many games like go here do this rush here you know just stop and breathe a bit i used to love running these pieces where like you know the in-game photography which is again something that only happened really in the the ps4 era when games started having cameras like like camera mode and stuff but used to love that just you know just seeing his his mad max that game told from an the perspective of an explorer in that world rather than someone who's trying to piece their car back together um which is basically the plot line of that game um that's an underappreciated game right there

yeah and tell me so you know obviously you were there at the beginning of this surge of interest from other mainstream outlets and of course lad bible gets involved as well with gaming bible and you were part of that as well but you were also there at the end of it And when some of these places started going away, tell me about that process.

What was that like to live through? What were some of the decisions happening and how did they affect you personally?

So I left Vice when there were some redundancies made.

It's not that one, but that is, again, a similar site to have come up after people have left other kind of more known brands.
