Canada is the world's third largest diamond producer by value.

And much of that story began in the Northwest Territories after 81 diamonds were discovered at Lac de Gras in 1991.

Diamonds once accounted for roughly a quarter of the territory's GDP.

But as the industry winds down, a new question emerges.
