I guess the elephant in the room here is that Labour this week has announced that they're not going to be ditching interest deductibility, aka the tax cuts for landlords, as you've all been calling it for this whole last term.

Come November, if we are looking at coalition talks between Labour and the Greens, are you going to be able to be on the same page about who you're protecting and what are the Greens going to be willing to compromise on when it comes to all of this?

Yeah, I mean, I found that kind of bewildering.

And I have to say in Labour's defence, and this has been generous perhaps, the argument is that a capital gains tax, which they have announced that they intend to put in place, will have the effect of being a tax on landlords, which is correct insofar as when people realise the value of a property and they sell it, then they'll be having to pay the capital gains tax.

The problem with that is there's no immediate revenue from that.

So that only gets realized when there's an actual passing on of an asset to a new owner.
