La Paz

The one on the north side runs north and finally reaches the Atlantic Ocean through the great Amazon River, while the other flows southward, reaching the sea through the Rio de Plata River.

The capital of Bolivia as we know it is La Paz, but only the legislative and executive departments are in this city.

Although La Paz is more than twelve thousand feet above sea level, it is located in the bottom of a deep canyon.

Back of the city is the giant peak of Mount Illimani, which pierces the sky at a height of twenty-one thousand feet.

While the weather is always warm in the daytime, it gets very cool at night, sometimes freezing cold.

And then further inland, what is now Bolivia, you have the development of the Tiwanakans.

This is a site in Bolivia near La Paz that grew into a large urban area.

And then as it expanded, less as an empire, maybe more as a culture, where people were using wooden snuff trays to snort psychoactives like Vilca.

So what we're seeing is that Through time, up until the time of the Inca, which is around 1200, the Inca decided to focus more on beer drinking.

So for the Chavin people, using Vilca was restricted to a select group of people.

It was a one-on-one sort of experience with a shaman or a priest, but was this the case for the Tiwanaku people as well, or was it more widespread in its use there?

In northern Chile, this is very, very far away from the Timonacan Center near La Paz in Bolivia, they had found enormous numbers of these wooden snuff tablets that were used to snort vilca.

In fact, they were so common, it seems that at least one out of two men, adult men, were using these.

As he set about reorganizing the government in Peru, he offered to give up his dictatorial powers, only to be granted them for another year.

He used this opportunity to eliminate the last vestiges of resistance to his rule, sending Sucre and his army to La Paz in Upper Peru, in pursuit of the renegade royalist General Pedro Olaneta.

The liberator set out for La Paz himself, but by the time he arrived in August, Olaneta had already been killed in a skirmish, and his army immediately surrendered to Sucre.

He favoured an autonomous republic within his, and on the 6th of August, the Assembly of Upper Peru declared independence and changed its name to the Republic of Bolivia, electing its namesake as president.

And further afield, Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz has called for an investigation into a possible attack against his government.

Two huge blasts occurred last Friday at a barracks in the city of Villacha, about 30 kilometers southwest of the Bolivian capital of La Paz.

The site was used to store confiscated fireworks, grenades and explosives, but the exact cause of last week's deadly incident is still being determined.

The explosions killed at least nine soldiers, eight of whom have been identified, with more than 80 people wounded.

So the same thing can apply to the lowlands.

Like if a person from Santa Cruz sees someone from La Paz doing the churrasco, the grilled meat, in a, let's say, unorthodox way, they would take that to heart.

So I would say Bolivians are very prideful of their culture.

Okay.

But pick one.

What's the biggest miss if you have to pick one spot?

Well, I mean, La Paz is a city that must be visited in Bolivia.

Today, La Paz is emerging as one of the most interesting cities, I would dare to say, in Latin America, especially in terms of gastronomy.

My mother was German.

I grew up in La Paz, Bolivia, and went to a Catholic school for girls, only girls.

As a teenager, I went to a boarding school in Spain and later to the United States to continue my studies.

So this is the type of education that I had.
