This is from a specific place in the northern part of Shizuoka Prefecture called Tamakawa.

And the type of tea plant used for making this tea is called Yamakai.

A little explanation is necessary.

Before 1867, Japan was a feudal monarchy whose nominal sovereign, the Mikado, or emperor, dwelt at his imperial city of Kyoto, and whose actual ruler, the Shogun, or regent, greatest of the nobles, governed the nation from his capital at Edo.

Feudalism was rampant.

The country was divided into small provinces, each ruled by a noble chieftain, and each chieftain had his loyal band of swordsmen, samurai they were called.

They are launching Songtei Kyoto, part of their new Shangri-La Signatures collection.

It's only seventy-seven keys, and it sits directly opposite the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Nijo Castle.

But the real value is the land itself.

The site is the historical former residence of the Kyoto Shoshidai, the shogun's representative in Kyoto.

You cannot manufacture that kind of historical provenance.

No, you can't.

And they're about to lose Hiroto Moroka.

Apparently he's going to go to Kyoto.

I think he's quite an integral player for them.

You're like, okay, I want to be in this area of New York or Kyoto or whatever it is.
