Welcome back to my discussion with Dana Huincorn from the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Food Sovereignty Program.

Dana, would you be so kind as to start by telling us about the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes?

You could see the big patches of terra preta and the, and the just clay where nothing was growing.

Okay, this is the Salish Kootenai Fire Department.

They are really, really, really cool.

They do a lot of burning.

So the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes have a really cool fire department where they are actually using fire to maintain healthy ecosystems that support traditional harvesting, such as berry stands and bitterroot, which are pyrophilic, you could say.

They supports with fuel mitigation by applying good fire to the landscape.

It prevents catastrophic fire.
