Felt like a practice gun, maybe in our matrix or rip off at the

time.

And it really leaves a kind of sour taste in my mouth, as well as everything else that's wrong with this film.

It

feels to me that Kurt Wimmer, he'd obviously just recently made Equilibrium.

And that was kind of doing like a thing where he applied Matrix kind of aesthetics to the idea of like 1984, wasn't it? It was all Georgia Orwell kind of stuff.

Before we get into what I thought, a little bit of context.

The Beekeeper arrived in January of 2024, written by Kurt Wimmer, the same writer behind films like Salt and Equilibrium, and directed by David Ayer, who most people will know from Fury with Brad Pitt and of Watch, and as the writer of Training Day.

That's a filmmaker who knows his way around tough, gritty material, and pairing him with Jason Statham felt like a natural fit on paper.

Statham has been one of the most reliable names in action cinema for over 20 years now, going all the way back to The Transporter, through the gloriously unhinged Crank films, and into the Fast and Furious franchise as Deckard Shaw.
