I really was interested in betting the Saints yesterday.

And then I get an alert, Nathan Shepherd, Kristen Miller are added as questionable with an illness.

Another, like, uh, later in the night, another defensive lineman with an illness, questionable.

There's something going through the Saints defensive line that's enough to keep me off of it.

Hopefully, um, he was a healthy scratch last week, which was very odd.

Christian Boyd has had a strong season, just didn't have a strong game in this one.
R
29:01Ross JacksonHOST
And then Kristen Miller was inactive.
R
29:04Ross JacksonHOST
And we got our opportunity to speak with Kellen Moore on Tuesday, the day after the game, and asked him a little bit about why it was that Kristen Miller was not active for that matchup.
R
29:14Ross JacksonHOST
Although he was healthy, he practiced limited on Thursday, practiced limited on friday and then had a full participation day on saturday so as one of our everyday or club members cameron observed practice much more or at least appeared to be much more involved than pete werner was who actually played in the game now to pete werner's credit and to the saints credit here pete werner of course has many years of experience while um Kristen Miller has two NFL appearances so far in the regular season, but has had some promising appearances in the meanwhile.
R
29:46Ross JacksonHOST
And you wonder just how much of a difference he might have been able to make based on the performances now that hindsight is 2020 based on the performances that the interior defensive line had.
R
29:56Ross JacksonHOST
Otherwise, the big reason.
R
29:58Ross JacksonHOST
for uh kristen miller not participating kellen moore said was because of a lack of time on task coming back from that toe injury but with two limited practices in a full practice it does strike up a little bit of curiosity in terms of just how much opportunity was needed there in order for him to be and this has been the buzzword of the week so i don't mean to use it this way but in order for him to be prepared to contribute here in this matchup.

So we'll see.

Uh, I will tell you, so a couple things last night too, um, I don't like that obviously we don't have Jordan Tyson playing.
J
11:22JasonHOST
Kristen Miller just, we just decide not to play him because he didn't have enough time in the field after his injury last week.
J
11:28JasonHOST
But, like-

Mm-hmm

This, this rookie draft class [laughs] isn't...
J
12:29JasonHOST
And again, Jordan Tyson's not h- healthy, and we hope he gets back in a few weeks, but it's, uh, leaving a lot to be desired.
J
12:36JasonHOST
And even when we probably could have gotten Kristen Miller and Oscar Delp some reps, we didn't.

Um, it should be noted the Saints were missing both Caden Ellis and Carl Granderson, who probably their best two-run defenders as I was thinking about that watching this game.
M
12:28Mina KimesHOST
And Bernie Jennings out, Kristen Miller out, a lot of guys.
M
12:30Mina KimesHOST
Yeah, yeah, Kristen Miller is the nose they drafted this year who's been... banged up yeah so which was a big part of reason why i picked atlanta i i flipped it when i saw the injuries ahead of nfl live like that's just those are just not i i don't know if the result would have been different if they had played but i do think they would have had a much better shot as in terms of this run defense they were pretty outmanned um i guess really quickly before we flip to the other side of the ball on the saints defense like this is a defense that albeit with those guys has given up some pretty big performances on the ground To be fair, it was against Detroit and Baltimore, and this is Atlanta.
M
13:05Mina KimesHOST
Those are maybe like three of the four or five best run games in the NFL.
M
13:08Mina KimesHOST
So do you think this run defense is as abysmal as it has looked, or do you think it's a product of injuries and just very difficult competition?

And so I've been reading a book, I think her name is Kristen Miller, and she talks about, she's a psychologist and, and early on she, she really thought that spirituality had something to do with her work, um, in therapy, and people told her not to talk about it.

I haven't been impressed with Tyree Wilson, but you're going to have to play him now, assuming Anthony can't get out there.
J
11:44Jeff NowakHOST
The good news is you did get Kristen Miller and Berion Brown back to practice.
J
11:49Jeff NowakHOST
Berion was dealing with a hamstring injury, missed last week.

Julian Blackman, defensive back, safety, he was a full participant, so it's good to see him back, Sean, but of the people I named, especially the two linebackers, to see the Saints dealing with so many significant injuries ahead of a big game is a bit concerning.

So the guys that you're losing are starting to pile up and you're not really getting anybody back.

That injury cropped up at Friday's practice.
J
5:06Jeff NowakHOST
He did not play in Week 2, and he's starting to become a player that you talk about as... injury prone right like he's a guy who missed the first part of camp because of an injury he missed a handful of practices he missed the time in the preseason with various ailments you know it's just not a good sign when you see a guy getting hurt repeatedly different issues so we'll see but he's just a guy to keep an eye on for now you do have depth of the defensive tackle position so it's not the end of the world if he does miss time but definitely not what you want to see early on in the guy's career.
