Fear among residents of Kokstad, especially women, have increased after a body was found whom people believe to be the one of a woman who was reported missing.

People say more than 11 bodies have been found since the beginning of the year.

While the police have opened murder dockets in at least three cases, including the separate deaths of two seven-year-old children, residents said a large number of the deceased was actually murdered.

If I may, uh, speak for myself, there is a need for another, uh, police station here for it to, uh, wrestle with the c- uh, criminal activities.

Otherwise, the resources that the police have can be best spoken to by the SAPS.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Kokstad, Makhosazana Matikizela, says she has written to the provincial commissioner requesting more officers to be deployed in the area.
