It was at The Knitting Factory in Williamsburg.

There's a big performance room, and then in the sort of the...

There's a bar, a smaller performance room that was just the, the front bar.

You know what I mean? Like that star power got in the way of what I was hoping was going to be another tier of connectivity to the Nigeria, to the Kuti estate, to what was happening with Bill T.

So all that to say, I'm nowhere near as physically connected to the land as I would like.

Great friends with Shayoon, great, good friends with Femi, and pretty good association with Yenny.

But when you opened the first City Winery in New York-

It was a much bigger vision.

The name City Winery was made to be very generic in the sense that I wanted to scale this concept out.

One of the advantages I think of, of this being my second act and a chance to do it again, was I didn't get a chance to build out a national network with The Knitting Factory, and I really had that inside me.

Like, I wanted to do something that was at scale.

Oh, okay.

I've booked her before, so I've put her in... a couple of different venues here the knitting factory um she also had a really cool opportunity to open for hinder uh not too long ago in one of the bigger venues here called tree fort music hall so yeah she's doing a lot of really good stuff so she's a solo artist and just kind of collaborates with a lot of people in the area so

Has she played with Sutrist or Dead at Dawn, or are you guys too heavy for her?

So we haven't put a show with us together yet.

And then they said, yeah, you're the guy.

And then that was in March of 2022.

And then by June, we had our first show at the Knitting Factory in Boise.

Oh, wow.

But yeah, for you, you were one of a few who were doing that.

And, you know, I think when I look at these photos, the thing I think about with this is, This was more common with music shows maybe that, you know, you think about that website, Brooklyn Vegan, would often have whatever music shows that were happening, whether it was, you know, at Elsewhere or the Knitting Factory or any of those places.

that they would say, these were the bands that performed, and here's a photo of this band, and here's this other band, and here's this performer, and you saw that, and a little bit to what you were saying of these blogs were capturing all this, but nobody was thinking about it in the same way with comedy as they were with music, and so...

Yeah, there's something that I think is very, you know, pioneering that you were doing to be doing this at that time when, yeah, I'm sure there were probably other photographers who were like, why aren't you shooting bands?

And there's one, I think this photo is nice.
