Klezmer

Yeah, I love that ensemble.

We do – we can also do like an entire show of Klezmer.

So we wind up doing like a lot of Jewish events and stuff.

But we do African.

Who basically invented the culture of the 21st century? Black folks and Jewish folks in the United States.

The popular culture is a lot of us interacting, you know, from Benny Goodman and Klezmer and jazz to civil rights to, I mean, as we're speaking, I just put up a picture of Dorothy and Gloria.

Both are now gone as of today.

So I was sort of afraid of going into that.

I ended up going to college for klezmer music.

for Klezmer Accordion at the New England Conservatory, which is also known as the Klezmer Conservatory.

While I was there, I was really encouraged to make the music that only I could make and to just really be true to yourself and all the different things that you love.

And it's also a really funny program because every professor in it or almost every professor in it, has a long history of playing klezmer and Yiddish music, no matter what they teach.

I sampled a bunch of sounds for this and want to acknowledge Castle Rock, Sony Pictures, Paramount Pictures, EMI Films, The On Being Project, Klezmer Accordionist Kiefer Bolger, Don Heist on the shofar, Cantor Moshe Stern-Hineni, Cantor Moshe Ganchoff, and Movie Cantor Neil Diamond.

It's

like Klezmer's Hispanic cousin.

Yeah.

Yeah.

I mean, Betty Boop is as ancient as Greek history.

But, you know, there was a lot of Klezmer going on in the

early jazz

scene and

early cartoon scene.

That's amazing.

So along the way, I also, you know, I played a lot of freelance gigs in classical jazz and Klezmer.

I toured and

They're so, they're really rich, they're so rich.

Maybe it's more Klezmer than Satmar.

But, it's not so much.

So, Melah, He says, that's why, it's not such a pillow why the door is so low, why we have so many problems.

And then in the evening, we'll conclude with two more performances inside the theater there.

And it's a mix of Klezmer and Persian Jewish music, Bukharan music.

We have an artist named Susana Bahar, who's Cuban-Venezuelan, and she mixes Afro-Cuban rhythms into her interpretation of Sephardic Ladino songs.

So it's really, you know, the festival is really very much a festival of Jewish world music.
