In 1985, Kiss released Asylum.

This was the official introduction of new lead guitarist Bruce Kulick, and this theatrical glam metal album continued in the band's Unmasked era back in the 1980s.

Hit number 20 on the Billboard albums chart.

And then out through the light came just what I thought, a rock and roll superstar.

And it was Paul Stanley of Kiss.

I'm not even a big Kiss fan, even though I like them, but I don't love them or anything.

Richie Sambora in Kiss, he auditioned for Kiss in 1983, and his meeting with Jon Bon Jovi happened within weeks of that.

Is this one of the book's greatest sliding door moments, where one decision could have dramatically changed two major bands?

Yeah, it could have.

Um, yeah, the, the way I look at it, and if you r- if you think of it, if, if you think of it from a perspective of Kiss' music, uh, Ace Frehley was sort of a, you know, a more of a blues-based player, and then they went to Vinnie Vincent, and Vinnie's more of a technical kinda shredder guy, and really didn't fit the, the '70s era of Kiss material at all.

But if you think about it, Richie Sambora falls more in line technically.

He's kind of th- th- the bridge between, uh, Ace Frehley and what Vinnie Vincent can do.

He's not as mu- he's not a shredder by any stretch, but he's definitely a better technical player than Ace, but he fits the Kiss music better than Vinnie Vincent would have.

I had no idea.

They cover Kiss's rock and roll all night.

Look at that.

The band that knows nothing and will say yes to anything ended up on a provocative soundtrack.

I fucking love Poison.
