um this is your first bracket how do we do like the seating and everything nick says a game i've already picked where it's going so i can't like uh try to make the matchups more interesting or something or have certain games that i love go further i've never done that in the past like why would you even accuse me of that um he does it all the time so that's how we've gotten around that so there's it's completely random that's how you end up with kingdom hearts 2 and kingdom hearts reach into memories on top of each other yeah so uh yes oh and the last bit that i did want to say um with a lot of housekeeping to set this up is that i i said that there's a lot of games that we don't know for sure where i don't have the hands-on experience we can just kind of go based off of what we've heard about the game um when we're talking about it but it might come down to the community voting oh what you move on excuse me

For example, they're not on the same side of the bracket, but like Kingdom Hearts 2 is moving on.
speaker_2GUEST
28:50
Like,
KimmyHOST
26:11
That was literally, yeah.
KimmyHOST
26:13
And I think even Kingdom Hearts 2, I was on there for like three streams.
KimmyHOST

BroganHOST

think i think it's important to realize that yeah this this first game they don't know what they're making yet they have like a very strong vision but they don't know like moving forward what the franchise will look like so like kingdom hearts 2 becomes much more focused on action and combat but this game has a lot of platforming and it's a lot it's very awkward it's super fucking awkward
MurphHOST
95:57
I think it's very telling that Mario 64 was the inspiration for the gameplay side of things.
MurphHOST
96:04
Because Mario 64 is also a game that's a little mysterious and strange in a lot of spots.

102:26
Yeah.
MurphHOST
102:27
The fact that you keep getting gummy blocks as rewards is really deflating, because there's no point to, like, upgrading or designing your own gummy ship, because the base one will carry you through every boring segment of gummy space.
BroganHOST
102:46
there's very little spectacle to it and I think that's what happens in Kingdom Hearts 2 is they make it like oh here's a set piece here that's cool I like that but like it's repetitive and tedious and it's like ugh but also it's reflective of like that this is this is one of the first times ever that it's like a crossover and it's multimedia and it's multi like it's multi genre and that's so fun like the idea of the gummy ship is really fun you know
MurphHOST
103:23
Yeah, and I think they would hit their stride in Kingdom Hearts 2 where it's a lot more like different gameplay segments to break things up.
ThrakHOST
16:03
Exactly.
ThrakHOST
16:04
I mean, Kingdom Hearts 2 isn't the second game.
ThrakHOST
16:06
It's the third game.
BillHOST
16:07
Yeah.
Cameron HawkinsHOST
84:55
It's a bit of a complex thing, right? Where it's like, yeah, like, I mean, Remake and Rebirth have...
Cameron HawkinsHOST
85:03
To me, outside of Kingdom Hearts 2, it has the best action RPG system of all time.
Cameron HawkinsHOST
85:11
And I think that, again, XIII has one of the best turn-based combat systems of all time.
Cameron HawkinsHOST
85:19
And...

good morning and welcome to the backlog files i am adam i forgot what we said we're gonna do last week but we didn't not much to say about that apologies but we are back today with kingdom hearts re chain of memories continuing our trip down memory lane through a kingdom hearts series Ori China Memories was originally bundled, if I remember correctly, in Japan with Final Mix for Kingdom Hearts 2.
Adam TaylorHOST
0:44
It did not come out domestically until later, and what this ended up with is, for a lot of people, their introduction to this game was through the Game Boy Advance.
Adam TaylorHOST
0:54
And Chain of Memories is very much a relic of that.
Adam TaylorHOST
5:36
Like, you're just rushing through the levels, you're gonna go through Akita beginnings, you're gonna fight whoever the final boss is, and then you gotta walk your way back to the Conqueror's Respite.
Adam TaylorHOST
5:45
Very easy to get.
Adam TaylorHOST
5:47
way overpowered especially considering he doesn't have an adjustable deck he does have an adjustable what's the one for here like his attack power can be increased but it is very different that said i didn't enjoy it not as much as i would have liked i did like at a certain point like as i was getting through reverse rebirth i was kind of like i get to do kingdom hearts next at least kingdom hearts 2 next at least which is my favorite game in the series and then we're gonna do and then get birth by sleep and then we get you know 3Ds and 0.2 and, you know, which 0.2 I haven't played since I played it the first time.
Adam TaylorHOST
6:22
So that and 3, we're going to get to go back through entirely fresh and I'm looking forward to that.
Adam TaylorHOST
6:28
But this felt like a necessary step that didn't need to go.
JohnHOST
5:40
Don't get me wrong.
JohnHOST
5:41
Kingdom Hearts 2 holds up.
JohnHOST
5:42
Oh, yes, it does.
JohnHOST
5:44
Yes, but
JoshHOST
5:45
I think that's because...
JoshHOST
5:46
So the nature of Kingdom Hearts 2 is because they included, like, the drive forms and this, that, or the other, they put so much more of...
JoshHOST
5:55
Quick point.
JoshHOST
5:55
They put so much more of an emphasis and a premium on fluid movement.
King DrellHOST
16:29
She knows it's always plenty of this, even if I don't ever actually say it or not.
King DrellHOST
16:35
But I will say this, because circling back to Jenna real quick, which is where all this started, where you said she had just finished Kingdom Hearts 2.
VoQualzHOST
16:42
Absolutely.
VoQualzHOST
16:43
I didn't know she finished The Secret Boss.

VoQualzHOST
22:26
You can handle Birth by Sleep.
Mike MenottiHOST
29:53
It's been too long.
Chris MenottiHOST
29:54
Some elements from Pooh's Grand Venture are also used in the Winnie the Pooh segments of Kingdom Hearts 2.
Chris MenottiHOST
29:59
Amazing.
Chris MenottiHOST
29:59
Actually.
Chris MenottiHOST
30:01
Don't forget, because Kingdom Hearts 2 also did Return of Jafar stuff, so
Mike MenottiHOST
30:04
Kingdom Hearts 2 has a good deal.
Mike MenottiHOST
30:06
It wasn't a full Pooh level, was it?
Chris MenottiHOST
30:10
The way they work in Kingdom Hearts 1, 2, and all the number ones is that there's this magical Winnie the Pooh book.
