With the passing of Dolly Parton recently, the absolute best way to keep her legacy moving forward is to engage with early learners with a book.

The King County Council plans to proclaim September 25th, 9/25, as Dolly Parton 9 to 5 Day.

Hopes for the NBA's return to Seattle were raised again today by the league commissioner.

So what is the status of that conversation about either trying to backfill that money or taking different approaches or what have you done?

Yeah, there's been a lot of leadership at the local level, in the mayor's office, the county exec's office, the City of Seattle Council, the King County Council, and the state legislature, all to assess this situation and plan for dealing with the potential loss of all these federal dollars across the state for permanent housing for people with disabilities.

And That is getting into budget planning conversations.

So coming into 2026, the city of Seattle had earmarked some funding as a contingency fund.

NFL Network is reporting that Darnold is expected to miss next week's game, but should be back sooner than later.

And finally today, some King County Council members have proposed making September 25th Dolly Parton 9 to 5 Day.

It celebrates the late Dolly Parton's support for children's literacy and her program that sends free books to children.

The proclamation comes as the Imagination Library of Washington announced it's restoring service to King County.

So in terms of protecting data, a report just came out from UW's Center for Human Rights that the state has been sharing driver information with ICE.

I mean, what can be done about that? Is that something that you all have been talking about on King County Council?

I think that ties into my comment that we shouldn't be collecting types of data that could be used in nefarious ways to begin with, right? So the State Department of Labor was notified about a year, year and a half ago that this violation was occurring, right? That there was data that was being shared with ICE.

So they put firewalls in place.

Kelly Kennison, the CEO, and her right-hand guy, William Towie, were not at the office.

They were both conveniently at another meeting across the, you know, nearby at King County Council, both attending, which is, you know, I don't think I've really seen them do that.

So they weren't there.

And to top it all off, Towie got a promotion from, um amid all this he his uh his title has been elevated and then a couple other folks got demotions so just kind of like i don't know why are you handling it this way on the way out we all know that kcrj is basically going to go away but they're doing it in a in a chaotic way that is you know potentially kind of damaging to their ability to keep doing the stuff that they do need to keep doing

And then the more recent vote was all about Donald Trump, let's face it.

You couldn't support a policy in Seattle if it looked like it had any sort of tinge of republicanism to it.

So now, you know, poster child in this particular article, I hope it leads to some self-reflection and taking a look at, as I don't think I've ever quoted Reagan Dunn, King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn in recent years, but he had a pretty solid piece talking about how our policies aren't working.

I think there's a risk of throwing the baby out with the bathwater here.
