Kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart

Instead, far more sinister trouble was ahead.

Brian David Mitchell, previously hired to do some work on the family's home, abducted Smart at knife point.

leading the teen to a campsite where his wife and accomplice, Wanda Barzee, waited.

Smart, who says she and Mitchell never spoke before her kidnapping, was held captive, abused, and sexually assaulted multiple times a day every day until her rescue nine months later on 12 March 2003.

The spacecraft confirmed the presence of water ice at its landing site.

In 2011, a judge in Salt Lake City sentenced street preacher Brian David Mitchell to life in prison for kidnapping and raping Elizabeth Smart.

It was 14 at the time of her abduction in 2002.

Also, a judge in Tucson, Arizona ruled that Jared Lee Loeffner, the man accused of wounding U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords, in killing six in the shooting rampage, was mentally incompetent to stand trial.

I kept getting

the name Brian.

Brian was the name that I kept getting and it's what I passed on to the rescue groups to so they could try and figure out who was in communications with her that would have that name.

The problem was he went by a different name because he was mentally imbalanced and he was also a religious zealot in his own mind.

He thought he was creating his own family by bringing Elizabeth Smart in that she was another wife, even though she was a child.

So even though another victim from the past or somebody who was a victim of... a murder or a rape, maybe coming through to help me, they gave the name Brian.

That's what they could give me, but he went by a different name.

After they caught the man who abducted Elizabeth Smart out of her bedroom, his name was Brian David Mitchell.
