Kibale National Park

Niles, would you like telling us a little bit about this image? Where do you take it? And tell us the story behind it.

So the image you're looking at now is of a young chimpanzee that are photographed in Kibale Forest National Park in Uganda on one of the Pangolin Photo Safaris.

The image is a youngster that was following his mother around and the mother decided to take a little bit of a break.

These youngsters are incredibly inquisitive.

And like, what is the footprint of the Chimp community? Like how many square, whatever?

So it has changed now.

Okay.

But what's unique

about it, so there's several chimpanzee study populations in Kibale National Park.

And so that's what I ended up doing as a graduate student at Harvard University.

I worked in Kibale National Park in western Uganda, studying chimpanzees there.

And then when I went on to do postdoctoral work, with Anne Pusey at the University of Minnesota, that's when I began working at Gombe.

And the thing that really led me to work at Gombe with Anne was that I had become interested in this question of intergroup relations.

For one, we see chimpanzee violence at lots of study sites, not just at Gombe.

And it's not just at the sites that are most impacted by human activities.

chimpanzee community with probably more documented killings than any other is the Ngogo community at the heart of Kibale National Park, which is very far from the forest edge and probably is one of the less impacted communities in terms of human impacts.

Although Brian Ferguson comes up with a story to explain somehow how Ngogo chimpanzees are really heavily impacted by humans.

am I missing? These are some of the young adults and adolescent male chimps in one of the chimpanzee groups at Ngogo, which is this population of chimpanzees in the middle of Kibale National Park in western Uganda.

This is a huge chunk of forest, especially for anywhere in Uganda or East Africa.

It's this big chunk of forest.

I have not seen Chimp Empire.
